"Excuse me? Who's Carl Powers?" John asks as we get into a cab.
"Where I began." Sherlock says blankly
"Of course! Why didn't we think of that!" I say as I throw my hands in the air
We take our seats in the cab and start to head to our flat.
"1989, a young kid, champion swimmer, came up from Brighton for a school sports tournament, drowned in the pool." Sherlock starts
"Tragic accident." I chime in
"You wouldn't remember it. Why should you?" Sherlock says to John
"Something fishy about it?" John asks
"Nobody thought so." I say
"Nobody, accept me." Sherlock says turning to me "I was only a kid myself. I read about it in the papers." "The boy..Carl Powers apparently had a fit in the water. By the time they got him out it was too late." Sherlock explains "Everything appeared to be there."
"Accept his shoes." I say
We sit in silence for the rest of the cab ride. 6 hours left on the clock, John and I began to get a bit antsy but it didn't seem to bother Sherlock one bit.
As soon as we get home Sherlock makes a B-line for his boxes and pulls out every bit of information on Carl Powers, then he carries his findings into the kitchen and locks himself away for an hour.
John and I sit a chat for a bit growing more and more nervous as the time ticks on. I could tell John was fed up with how much time Sherlock was wasting. John suddenly stands up and goes to the kitchen door, before he opens it I grab his wrist.
"Don't" I say
"Why not? There is an innocent woman's life on the line and Sherlock is taking his own sweet time, we've only got five hours left and the only clue we have is a pair of bloody shoes!" John exclaims as he frees from my grip.
"Sherlock has it under control. Trust me this isn't the first time he's been in a situation like this. He might not show very much emotion but he knows what he's doing." I say reassuringly
I could tell he loosened up a bit but still decided to disrupt Sherlock and swing the door open.
"Let us help. We only have five hours left. Let us help." John persists
Just then John's phone chimes. He pulls it out and looks to see who's texted him. Me being annoyed with John's actions I sit back down on the couch. But something perks my attention.
"It's your brother, following up about the case." John says.
"Must be a root canal." Sherlock says snidely
"Excuse me?" John questions
"He doesnt text unless he can't talk." I intrude as I get up to grab an apple out of the bowl in the kitchen. I lean my body against the counter and observe. John glances my way.
"He did say National Importance." John persists
"Look John that's not important right now." I say annoyed "Like you said there is a woman's life on the line. A man who is already dead can wait a few more hours." I hiss
Sherlock looks up and gives me a smirk
"Fine John, if it's so important to you I'll put my best man on it." Sherlock says sarcastically
"Good." John says confidently and just stands there with his arms crossed waiting for Sherlock to bring in his best man. Sherlock and I exchange looks then we both look at John.
