"Alpha Stone paid me a visit after your meeting." Jexanna's eyes shot open as she nearly tripped on her own feet. Shou's tone was low and quiet as they stepped onto the staircase. Captain Yong was on the third floor, meaning they had to endure a decent journey on this damn staircase. Why couldn't the FLA use elevators instead of this strange marvel? Jexanna's lips grew tight as she played it off, not wanting to release a growl. There were eyes and ears everywhere.
"Really?" She drew her hair back behind her ear as a playful grin grew onto her lips. "Are you jealous, Shou?"
"We've established a long time ago that jealousy's not a part of our relationship." Shou shook his head with a small grin.
'Just be careful of him.' He advised inside her mind.
'I can handle him.' She shot back.
"Please, Shou, you and I have known each other for quite a while. I don't think you need to worry about an Alpha getting in between us." She giggled softly as her eyes glanced around the chamber. As she anticipated, her presence was still making an impression. Her father, after all, was Dr. Jonathan Lewis. Curious eyes lingered on the two as their staircase ascended to the fourth level. Each pair was expecting her to perform as his mess of a daughter. She could hear the voices whisper; she could feel their eyes on her. Every passing moment, another rumor growing in the wind of how she dishonored her father. Jexanna tightened her grip around Shou's arm. He looked down, brow furrowed downwards curiously. She gazed up with a small giggle.
′And this is why I wanted Dr. Jess Lewis to die in an accident.′ She projected to Shou. He groaned. To everyone else, it looked like he was getting tired of her pressing against him.
'And she would have if you had just joined the Knights years ago, my dear.' He rolled his eyes as Jexanna resisted the urge to snort at his response. Please.
"Alpha Stone wouldn't be able to handle you." Shou shrugged with a shake of his head. "I'm not worried."
"Good." She patted his chest. Thankfully the ride was much less eventful than days earlier. They quickly found their way to a familiar door inscribed with the name, 'Eun Yong' glowing in gold.
"You can do the honors, Dr. Lewis." Shou grinned as he gestured for her to knock. Jexanna rolled her eyes at his performance. At least he was behaving right now. She tapped the door.
"Come in." A deep voice came from the other side before the door opened. Captain Yong's office was immediately different from her brothers. Born off the coast of Africa, Captain Yong didn't disappoint in being somewhat eccentric. He enjoyed many adventures as a boy, including occasionally wandering too far into the ocean to even play pranks on the merpeople and water fae that lived there. It didn't take long for his antics to land him in trouble with the FLA one day. He was given the choice of service in the agency or jail in an underwater city. At the age of 15, he chose to serve the agency. So it didn't surprise Jexanna that he covered his office in artifacts from around the world, deep rich tones, and the sweet scent of incense. As she rounded the corner, she met his deep green eyes. She watched the gold in his eyes glimmer as they widened.
"Well, this is a surprise." Eun Yong's eyes narrowed as they went up and down her figure. Jexanna rolled her eyes at the tall man. His brow went down as his lips puckered down. "I never thought that you would be here, Dr. Lewis." He enunciated her name as Jexanna's eyes widened just a little. But in all honestly, it didn't surprise her that he knew her little secret.
He even caught her taking the damn potion several times as a teenager. Her father believed that she had escaped the burden of having fae powers, despite her natural appearance. How was he wrong. Jexanna resisted the urge to laugh bitterly at the reminder of how many times her father tried to hide her heritage from the world and how she tried to hide her emerging powers.
