“Dr. Lewis, can we talk for a moment?” Captain Yong’s voice made Jexanna’s body stiffen. Her eyes went away from the task at hand. She had just sent Alpha Stone the file of recommended dietary measures to increase iron and was analyzing the blood samples closely from histology scans. Jexanna’s eyes scanned the room; the majority of the FLA researchers didn’t even flinch as the Captain strolled across the room to her self-designated desk.

“Of course, Captain Yong.” She glanced around once more to see that Hamma had paused in her typing to glance over at their direction. “Hamma, do you mind taking a look at these histology scans? I think that you have a much keener eye than I do.” Jexanna passed her laptop over to Hamma who sat at the station beside hers.

“Not a problem, please go and help the Captain.” Hamma curtly nodded before taking the laptop with her. Jexanna’s eyes rolled as Hamma closed Jexanna’s laptop sshut and pulled up the files on her own machine before they had even left the room.

“So what’s up?” Jexanna asked Captain Yong after they settled into his makeshift office, which was actually an office space thankfully. Many of the other team leaders were offended that only the Captain and Raphael actually got offices to work in. But there wasn’t much they could do besides grumble. Captain Yong closed the door and Jexanna raised a brow at the action.

“I take it that this is a private conversation, then?” Jexanna sat down on the desk. Eun’s eyes narrowed at her as he turned around.

“Get off the desk, Jex.”

“No.” She stared back at him, crossing her arms and meeting his eyes directly. Eun sighed, his lips curling into a frown as he pulled up the chair next to the desk, sitting down.

“Shou contacted me.” Jexanna’s lips drew a tight line. “He wanted me to pass the information along.”

“Why would he contact you?”

“I don’t know.” Eun reclined into the seat, his arm sat against the armrest as he cocked his head to the side. Jexanna’s eyes followed his body, not bothering to meet his eyes. “Maybe it’s something to do with a certain someone’s rejection.”

Her head snapped up and watched his gaze. He was testing her, seeing if his damn hypothesis was actually right. And his lips curled into a wicked grin. The fucking bastard.

“Do you really have to be so damn observant?” Jexanna muttered, fists clenching the edge of the desk. Her face flushed.

“I can’t help what’s painfully obvious, Jexanna.” Captain Yong replied. “To be honest, I’m surprised that it took Shou so long to come out about it.”

Jexanna’s eyes narrowed as she remained silent. Her glare only sharpened with a tight frown across her pink lips.

“But I’m apparently the only one who knows that he actually had feelings for you.” Captain Yong’s tone softened, wistful almost.

“Your observation skills are impeccable as always.” Jexanna growled, annoyed that he was right. She even didn’t really know about Shou’s feelings until this mission. She pushed herself off the desk. “So what did he have to say?” The desire to leave the conversation was strong. Mainly because she didn’t need the Captain to pick up on her new arrangement with Alpha Stone.

That would be just too damn much.

“That the COVID study you had him look into has hit a dead-end.”

Jexanna blinked in shock. The Knights couldn’t find anything on that study? They were able to find the darkest secrets of royalty, but yet they couldn’t find a simple medical study?
