I'm sorry this isn't a chapter. But I'm surrounded currently with work, (I literally went from like 1.5 projects to now 5 projects at work within a matter of weeks). And as some of you may know, I'm a mom. I have a three-year-old daughter, and I want to make sure that I have family time and good mental health breaks as well. But in the meantime, (because I have been writing when I'm able to), I have a little preview chapter below of what's to come.
I appreciate your patience and I hope that everyone is alright and safe.
———————————-"Do you want to make a deal then?" Jexanna asked quietly, seemingly defeated.
"Are you really in the position to make a deal, Jexanna?" Raphael raised a brow, crossing his arms.
"Let's face it, as soon as this mission is done, you'll be after me like a dog on a bone. You have stakeholders to consider." She remarked. "You have a duty to your pack members. You've got a reputation for being a transparent leader, it's something that you implemented in contrast to your father's policies. You have a moral obligation and requirement to report me to your pack. They will seek retribution and justice, possibly in the form of millions I don't have. So, let's say I offer all of my research and close-up shop on the black market in return for a lighter sentence. "
"No." Jexanna's eyes narrowed at the tightened scowl across his face.
"No?" She scoffed in disbelief. Jexanna knew that this was going to be messy. But she didn't expect him to so readily reject her offer. It was a decent offer, after all her research was on the cusp of new applications for the orchid. Who wouldn't want that research? "What do you mean no?"
"I'm not interested in a deal that offers so little to my pack, Dr. Jexanna Lewis." Raphael's eyes shifted from steel to soft blue-gray as he stepped closer to her. His gaze captured her as she waited to hear what came next.
"If you want to forgo any punishment, there's only one thing I want in return that will return a comparable value."
"What's that?"
"I want you."
"What?" She breathed out.
"I want you." He repeated softly. Her body grew hot as the words entered the atmosphere. With three simple words, he sent chills up and down her body. She felt her heart race. Her stomach flopped. What the hell was going on?
"No." She glared back at him, annoyed with her body's natural reaction.
"You don't have a choice, Dr. Lewis." Raphael reminded her softly. "If you don't want me to go after the Foundation or your brother. If you don't want any punishment, then you need to listen to my request."
"What do you want?" She narrowed her eyes at him, ready to kill him if necessary.
"I want you, Dr. Jexanna Lewis." He repeated. The damn chills followed once again as his face remained earnest. What did he mean by want?
"Maybe it's because you are an enigma, Dr. Lewis. I prefer to know my allies and enemies even more. The fact that you've alluded me for so long, and are here now as an ally," He paused as he grew even closer to her face. Jexanna's breath hitched at the fact that they were now centimeters away. "It makes me very curious. I want the chance to see and learn more about you." Her head spun as each word released a breath that tickled against her lips.
"Careful," Jexanna murmured, allowing her fingers to graze against his chest. Sparks raced up and down each fingertip with every point of contact. Her mind swirled. She couldn't stop herself from continuing. His scent, his breath, his touch, his voice, everything was driving her wild right now. Shit, even the shine of his gray eyes in the light, was coaxing her to capture him. Raphael Stone was captivating.
"That almost sounded like a confession." The words escaped before she could stop them. Her heart raced as Raphael's eyes deepened. Desire covered his expression, and damn was it hot. A low growl emitted from his throat. Jexanna's entire being shivered in response. How the hell could a growl sound sensual?
"Should we just stop using words then?" Raphael huskily replied before his lips fervently collided against hers.
