Chapter 24

The night got darker and the outside became silent. I changed into formal attire. And waited until it was a perfect time. Everyone was out waiting to see who I paired them up with. But they don't know that's not what I am doing anymore. I decided to leave later than others and wait until everyone was settled. I found Jack with Karina and Ryn eating at a table and just admired him for a little bit. He was my family but my wolf holds onto Vincent as long as I allow mate bonds to carry on. I'll keep her locked up in me, no matter how much she pushes out. "You're ruining the order of things Athena, do not abandon our children." She kept saying to me but she doesn't realize I control that power now. I will for as long as it takes. I joined Jack not so long after as Ryn was meeting all of her uncles. "Excuse me, everyone, can I get your attention." We all turned our heads to see a drunken Marissa at the stands. She was wobbling side to side and had the microphone stand keeping her up. Everyone played close attention to her and honestly even Vincent was unsure of what she is doing up there because he walked to her and tried to get her to come down. "My name is Marissa Marks, I am Vincent's second chance mate. Since his original mate left him for his brother." Gasps could be heard all over. "Athena Sadar was a low-level wolf who worked as a stripper. And she is here with us tonight." Anger built inside of me that she had the right to talk to me tonight. What was she going to get out of this other than embarrassing us?

"Athena carries the host of the Moon Goddess which led to thousands of wolves dying! She is the Moon Goddess and she is here to abandon us once again!" She screamed out. Vincent ripped the microphone from her hand before grabbing her arm and dragging her away from the stage. All eyes were on me at this time. People began trotting over and yelling as they heard the news. "Is it true?" "You killed my cousin." "Are you abandoning us?" But with questions like that, I didn't have any answers. All the confidence was long gone. "Jack get the kids and take them away please?" He reached for my shoulder. "Go now before they get hurt." Jack had taken Ryn in his arms and grabbed Karina before he darted from the place. "I told you it's not a good idea for people to know" The Goddess spoke to me. She was threatening to take control for once and I was fighting it. She had power like no other but I could do this myself. The yelling started hurting my ears and eventually, I couldn't hold her back. "ENOUGH!" She yelled which cause whimpers as their mouth closed and their heads bowed. "I am your queen! You don't get to question me or the body I host! I risked my life and my mates making everyone fall in love and what do I get in return? My loyalty questioned?" Their eyes bore at us as they had no voice to talk. "You don't deserve mates. You're selfish, greedy, materialistic. All I wanted was my mate and I couldn't have him. Athena couldn't have hers. You uncultured swine! You want mates then you shall find them yourself. I am abandoning you until you start being more grateful. You stake Athena, you stake your humanity!" Everyone stood in fear, as they watched as reality set it. "KNEEL!" She commanded and just like that everyone is on their knees even Vincent. "You pray to me every night and yet you never give in return you just take and take. While we lost. Do you want to see what it's like to be stuck in silence with someone ruling your every move? Not anymore. We are releasing you to find your own mate. Based on emotion rather than a bond. I am releasing Athena as my host and you will no longest know when I come back or who I am." Just like that, I was back in control. There was a nagging feeling in my head and was putting so much pressure to the point I fell to my knees in pain.

A pair of arms lifted me up and it was Vincent. I let out a screeching pain as it felt like my skin was ripping from my body. As I felt her leaving my body. My entire body was shaking as it went numb.

Vincent

"What happened?" I heard Jack say. "A lot, the Goddess is removing herself from her body. I can't make it stop." She was in my arms just shaking and crying. She wasn't okay. Jack knelt down to try to stop the seizure that she was starting to have but it wasn't working. A sigh left his mouth. "You know what you need to do, Vin." I did. I knew exactly what I had to do but that meant hurting my brother and saving her. I held her in my arms as I placed my lips on hers as she convulsed. I kissed her as it may be the last time I get to do this until she finally relaxed in my arms and she began coughing up what looked like blood. "It hurts." She had screamed out. Her eyes started rolling back and her skin was fire hot. "Dammit Vin, just do it!" I didn't think twice as she was dying in front of my eyes. I lifted her up closer to me before sinking my canines in her neck.

    I bit down in her marking spot, which released endorphins that traveled down her spine enough for us to not feel anymore. She relaxed once again covered in sweat in my arms. She huffed and heaved until she fell asleep. I struggled to make eye contact with Jack but I knew he would be crushed. We had one common interest and that's making sure Athena is safe. He lifted her into his arms and she just laid there limp. I looked out to the crowd who still had their heads down. "You will return to your quarters until I say otherwise," I commanded them. They nodded before all walking back. "The mark will fade in about a week. But thank you for doing this." My heart ached to watch him walk away with my mate that I just marked. This was going to be the longest week. Me marking her was curing her pain. That's the type of power having a mate does. I just couldn't watch her wither in pain but now I have to let her go once again. How can I watch her leave again knowing the curse was no longer the issue. She is going to get clingy and possessive over me. And I am supposed to just stop her? When I want her because nothing was stopping us now...
