Chapter 17

Athena

I used my arm to cover her eyes as I took my sister from the house into his truck. She was covered in blood from my parents and it was weird. I had expected her to be more scared but she looked out like nothing happened. About 10 minutes later Vincent came in and tossed a bag in the backseat with us. I held onto my sister for the entire ride back to my apartment. It was silent and my thoughts were everywhere. It didn't make any sense how I was alive or why she was alive. But there had to be a logical explanation as to why we were. My sister fell asleep on my lap on the way. I looked in the mirror and saw he was looking at me too. I don't think that I would survive without him right now. "I hope you show that my duty is protecting her right?" I told him. "She's our responsibility. You will never have to be alone." A smile spread across my face to hear that. I smoothed Karina's hair as we continued the drive to my apartment. Vincent finally pulled up and Jack was waiting for us. He opened the back door before grabbing Karina in his arms for me as she stayed asleep. "I am going to bathe her before anything." I walked out of the car following him and Vincent inside. After bathing my dirty sister who stayed asleep the entire time. I changed her and laid her down to sleep.

When I got to the living room, Jack and Vincent were arguing about everything that had happened. I sat on my couch just watching it play out. I haven't slept and honestly wasn't in the mood to talk. "We have Alphas without packs. Wolves need a pack but what can we do when everyone wants to lead?" Vincent argued. "Why does there need to be a leader. Why can't we all have each other's back and call to figure out who is making the wolf kind go extinct?" Jack argued back. My mind wandered again ignoring them. "Are you going to stop ignoring me?"I asked my wolf. "I was not ignoring you, but I want you to find out for yourself." Why was she so smug at a time like this? "The tale of two brothers," I whispered. I repeated what my wolf had said because I don't know that story. "Ask them, they will know." She said. I stood up feeling the paging feeling in my legs. "You guys stop!" But they ignored me. I kept trying to talk but they wouldn't listen to me. "Athey, why are they yelling?" Karina walked in rubbing her eyes and joining me on the couch. Both men had finally stopped yelling to look at her. It was strange the way they look at her. "Kay, are you okay?" Jack knelt down in front of her. Karina placed a hand on his cheek and just smiled. "I am fine JJ, you both woke me up." He lowered in his head as did Vincent. What the hell was going on? My wolf reached for Karina and pulled her to our side in protection. "Back away from her." She demanded. They instantly took a step back. I shook my head as I was trying to understand why we were acting that way. "Karina, you can go back to sleep. They will be quiet." She nodded her head and gracefully walked back to the room and shut the door. I waited for the door to shut to speak up. "Does anyone want to explain what happened and why we melted the way we did?" They both shook their heads in confusion too. "Listen, before everything happened my wolf told me it was too late for something but also told me about the tale of two brothers. Does anyone have an idea?"

Their faces searched mine before it went in shock. They looked at each other in an oh shit face. "Does anyone want to fill me in?" They both stood there nervous and kept looking to and from each other. "Athena, how don't you know this? We were in the same history class." I looked at him like he was dumb. "Jack told me how many times I actually showed up. And if I was there I was in the back ki-" I stopped what I said to avoid a dirty look. "The point is I don't know, so will you please enlighten me?" I plopped back on the couch as dumb and dumber looked at me stupidly. "So back before the Goddess had eliminated 95% of the werewolf existence, she was in love with her mate. She would sneak off with him each chance she got at midnight. She took everyone out of rage is what you missed. She was so tired of hiding that she began to not care anymore. When it was found that she was sneaking away they cursed her and her mate. Each time they mated the kind resets and they both knew that they couldn't be together. But not too long after she met a man with who she grew an emotional connection with and she was struggling with the love of her mate but she couldn't mate with her own mate. There wasn't any damage to what she was doing. Years later she reconnected with her mate and once again killed everyone off. But this time she was accused of treason but before she took her life she fell pregnant and she placed her soul in someone else." My mind was completely blown at this point. The Moon Goddess really just didn't have any freedom and she couldn't even raise her daughter. "Wait, what if there has never been a Goddess all this time? Jack, you even said it yourself that finding your mate was really rare. What if all this time it's been rare is because the Goddess has not existed until the body that contains her daughter's soul came of age or found her mate?" I struggled to my feet with processing this information.

It was making sense and that was an issue. "Keep an open mind. The Goddess was said to rise later. What if she found a new body to host in search of her daughter? You told me that only those of a high rank had stayed alive? Tell me why Karina and I are alive?" At this point, we were all stunned by this theory I had come up with. "Athena, we had sex and the entire werewolf kind died."
