North came back from the playground. I was cooking dinner with my mom.
"Hey, North! How was the park?" Mom asked.
"Fine," North went straight to her room.
Mom sighed. I knew she wanted North and her to be close. But I don't think North wants that.
I decided to go up to North's room, "Hey, North. What did you do at the park?"
"Talk to Xander," North said.
My eyes widen, "You and Xander talked?"
She looked at me, "Yeah,"
"What did you talk about?" I sat on her couch.
She groaned, "We just talked about what my name meant."
"What do you think it means?" I asked. I always tried to avoid making a conversation with North, but now, I felt like there was more I needed to know about her.
"I think it's got something to do with the direction. You could be walking north but if you turn right and keep walking, you'll be walking North again, won't you?" North explained.
"Oh. But what does that have to do with your name?" I asked again.
"No matter where I am, I will be always be walking north. That means my real family will always be around me." North explained. I nodded my head.
It made sense. North knew wherever she was, her family was with her.
I went out of her room, still, a bit shaken by her words. I never knew she was so deep in her words.
I decided to call Xander. After all, he was talking to her. I wonder why he wanted to talk to her. Or why she told him this. There were so many questions in my head.
I picked up my phone and realized I didn't have his number.
Dang, it.
But I had his dad's number. I could call him.
I called Mr. Gerkins and the phone answered, "Hey, Emily!"
"Um, hi Mr. Gerkins. I was wondering if I...could talk to Xander?" I asked doubtfully.
"Sure! Give me a sec!" Mr. Gerkins said.
After a minute Xander groaned in the phone, "What?"
"North told me she talked to you in the playground." I got to the topic right away. I knew he didn't want to talk to me for one second.
"Oh. Did she bring that up to you? I thought she was just going to ignore the fact she even saw me." He said.
"Did you talk to her, or did she talk to you?" I asked.
"I talked to her," Xander said.
"Oh," I said in disbelief.
"Why? Did you think she came up to me?" Xander asked.
"No. I would be surprised either way. I'm just surprised she talked to you about her name." I confessed.
"Me too. I thought she was just really quiet and stuff. I didn't think she was about to tell me something so deep." Xander confessed.
"Oh," I exclaimed.
I could feel Xander smile from the phone, "She's a special kid, though. She's quiet and everything, but when she finds the right person to talk to, she'll tell you all you want to know. And I think you're the one that she'll talk to."
I was in awe by Xander's words. Did he just say that? I never thought I could be able to have North talk to me.
"W-what do you mean?" I asked.
"The day we were at the park together, you knew so much about her. I don't think anyone else knows that much about North. It's like you truly understand her. Maybe if you just try to talk to her more, then maybe she'll actually tell you more about her." Xander explained.
"Well, you actually did talk to her. And she told you stuff I don't think anyone else heard before. You might be able to find out more about her than me." I told him.
He groaned, "What do you mean?"
I took a deep breath, "Maybe you're the one North needs."
I could hear him shake his head in the phone, "No, Emily. I have nothing to do with her. But maybe you. Maybe you're the one North really needs."
Maybe you're the one.
