Henry and I sat at the castle in silence. Neither of us spoke. Things had been different since Graham died. Henry didn't want to talk and neither did I. Emma came and found us though. She sat in between us.
"Brought you something" She said handing us both a walkie talkie. She had one herself "Thought we could use them together for Operation Cobra. Gold gave them to me"
"Thanks" Said Henry morbidly
"Oh, come on! What's up? You've been ducking me for weeks" She said
"I think we should stop Cobra stuff for a while. You dont play with the curse. Look what happened to Graham" Said Henry
"Henry, I told you they did an autopsy. It was totally natural causes" Emma replied
"Okay, whatever. You dont believe – good. That should keep you from messing with it. And getting killed" He said
"Youre worried about me?" Emma asked
"She killed Graham because he was good – and youre good" Henry replied
"Henry" Said Emma
"Good loses – good always loses. Because good has to play fair – evil doesnt. Shes evil. This is probably best. I dont want to upset her anymore" He said
"Graham was one of the first people I met when I came here. He was always there for me, looking out for me... and now he's gone" I said trying to hold back the tears "Come on Henry" I said holding my hand out for him to walk with me. He grabbed it and we headed home. Henry left the walkie talkie "Do you mind if I pop into Gold's for a minute?" I asked. Henry shook his head. I walked in was hit with the stench of something awful
"Can I help?" He asked coming out the back room
"Emma said you have Graham's things" I said
"I do... here" He said putting the box on the bench. His leather jacket was lying at the top. I picked it up carefully remembering how he would try act cool when putting it on "How much?" I asked
"No charge. I don't think anyone else would like that. Take it" He said
"Thank you" I said walking out the shop.
"Is that Graham's?" Henry asked
"Yeah it is" I said as we headed home "Thought it would be nice, having something of his" I said
"It is" Henry relied
That night I heard Henry coming into my room. For the past two weeks he had been coming in my room every other day and asking to sleep in my room with me. Truth is, I think I needed it more than Henry. He would always snuggle up and drift off peacefully in here. It had become a thing now, whenever he had a bad day, he would come in my room and sleep in my bed.
The next morning I woke up with Henry still in my arms. My alarm was going off so I turned it off and woke Henry before dropping him at school and heading to work.
"Morning" Said Ruby when I walked in
"Hey" I replied
"Have you heard about the Sheriff thing?" She asked
"No" I replied
"Regina assigned Sidney as the new sheriff" She said
"What? But Graham wanted Emma!" I said pissed off
"Hey, look... I know after Graham neither of us was in the right place to go on our second date, but maybe tonight?" She asked
"I don't know" I replied
"Please, it'll help take your mind off the whole situation, plus Graham would want us to go" She said
"Really?" I asked. I wanted to go but I still felt pretty crap after everything
"Yes! After our first date, you know what he said to me? He said we made a really cute couple. He wanted us together, so please? Just one and then if it's awful we can give it more time" She said
"OK, tonight" I said. She suddenly got really excited and hugged me so tight I could barely breathe. The shift was actually fun compared to the last few weeks. At 3 I took my break and went to pick Henry up. He then sat at the diner for a bit while I finished my shift.
"How was school?" Emma asked Henry joining him in the booth while I gave him more hot coco
"Okay" He said reading the news paper
"Youre reading that paper pretty hard" She replied
"Sidney wrote it" He said handing it to her. The cover said 'Emma swan birthed babe behind bars' "Is it a lie?"
"No" Said Emma
"I was born in jail?" Henry asked
"Yes. These records were supposed to be sealed. Tell me youre not scarred for life" Said Emma
"Im not" He said
"Well, not by this" I replied smiling
"Good. Then, lets throw this out and we will get our news from something more reliable. Like the internet" Said Emma
"This is what Ive been trying to tell you – good cant be evil, because good doesnt do this kind of thing. My mom plays dirty – thats why you cant beat her. Ever" Said Henry
"I have a new ally. Mr. Gold said hes going to help" Said Emma
"Mr. Gold? Hes even worse than she is. You already owe him one favour. You dont want to owe him any more. Dont do this" Said Henry. Emma left shortly after
"You know the hero always wins" I told him
"She can't win" Said Henry
"Hero's always win. Because they have something the villain's don't, hope" I told him. He laughed a little "I know! I meant the thing hope not me" I said before grabbing my jacket. Ruby suddenly came running into the back room
"Hope! There's been a fire down at the Mayor's office" She said. I ran back grabbed Henry's hand and dragged him behind me as I ran to the office. Firemen were there already and was keeping people back while they put the fire out. Emma eventually came over to us
"Did you really rescue Regina?" Mary-Margret asked
"She did! The fireman said it. They saw it" Said Henry with a wide grin on his face, proud of his mom
"You are a hero" Said Ruby
"We should see if they have a picture of the rescue" Said Mary-Margret
"We could make campaign posters" Suggested Granny
"This is how good wins. You do something good and people see it, and then they want to help you" Emma told Henry
"Maybe youre right" Said Henry
"You see, Henry? We dont have to fight dirty" Said Emma. I left the two of them and went over to Regina who was being looked after by the paramedics
"Hey, you ok?" I asked
"I'm fine" She replied
"Really?" I asked
"Yes" She said moody
"Great, sorry for being concerned. Oh by the way I'm going on a date tonight so don't wait up" I said walking off.
"Hey" Said Ruby catching up with me "We still on for tonight?" She asked
"Yep. See you at 8" I said. I went to Emma and Henry "Hey, I've got a date, can you drop him home whenever?" I asked before running home to get ready
