I wore black jeans and a body suit this time with heels. We went to Tony's again. Granny's and Tony's were the only places in all of Storybrook to have a decent date, otherwise it would be the Rabbit hole and that is not romantic at all!
"You really like the salad here" Said Ruby. I had ordered the same thing as last time, chicken Caesar salad.
"Oh, um actually I'm a recovering anorexic. Dates can be hard unless there is salad on the menu" I said laughing
"We don't have to eat if you don't want to" Said Ruby panicking
"No! It's fine, I want to be here" I said holding her hand
"Can I ask you something?" She said more seriously
"Yeah sure" I said
"Last time we went out, we talked about New York, but what about the other places you lived? You know in the foster homes?" She asked
"Oh, well. I was dropped outside the police station when I was 2 and was fostered by a single dad who was going to adopt me but changed his mind and left me on a park bench in New Orleans I was about 9, and an old lady found me and took me to the police station. I was then sent to an emergency group home. I was fostered for less than a year by a family in San Francisco. But they had a baby and didn't want me, so I was then fostered by a family in New York and lived with them for about 3 years but they never adopted me and eventually sent me back. I was like 11 by then and no one really wants an older kid. But I was sent to a few foster homes, most of them only wanted me for the money and I would cause so many problems that I was kicked out, until I was dumped in a group home and Regina found me a year later" I told her
"Wow, I've only ever been in Storybrook" She said
"At least you've got a place that feels like home" I said
"You don't feel at home here?" She asked
"It's not that I don't feel at home, it's that with Regina, she doesn't feel like a mom, when I pictured being adopted, I thought there would be this connection and I don't feel that" I said
"But you still let her adopt you" She said
"Yeah, but I did that to become Henry's sister, not Regina's daughter... If that makes sense. I feel at home when I'm with him, or you!" I said. She squeezed my hand. After we ate, we headed to the ice cream place and walked down the main street until we got back to Regina's "You wanna come in?" I asked
"Am I allowed? Won't Henry and Regina be in?" She asked
"I meant for coffee!" I said laughing "Henry will be asleep and Regina will probably be too since the lights are off" I said.
"Ok, one cup of coffee and then I'll go" She said. We headed straight for the kitchen and I made us both a cup we chatted as we drank. Just then, Regina came walking into the kitchen
"Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to disturb" She said
"Oh, don't worry. I was just about to go home any way" Said Ruby
"I'll walk you out" I said. When we reached the door, I checked Regina was still in the kitchen and kissed Ruby "Bye" I whispered as she left.
"Have a good time?" Regina asked
"Yeah I did" I replied
"What happened?" She asked
"You really wanna know?" I asked
"I could do with a good gossip" She said smiling. We made our way over to the couch and I told her everything that happened, it was like a proper girly chat! Regina didn't seem like the evil queen anymore. She had basically stopped hurting me and she seemed like some kind of weird... friend I guess!
The next day was the debate. Everyone gathered in the town hall to listen to the two candidates.
"Tragedy has brought us here, but we are faced with this decision. And now, we ask only that you listen with an open mind and to please vote your conscience. So, without further ado, Id like to introduce you to the candidates – Sidney Glass and Emma Swan. Glass. Swan. Sounds like something that a decorator would make you buy. Wow, crickets. Okay, uh Uh, Mr. Glass – your opening statement" Said Archie. Sidney walked to the podium
"I just want to say, that if elected, I want to serve as a reflection of the best qualities of Storybrook. Honesty, neighbourliness, and strength. Thank you" He went back to his seat and Archie stepped forward again
"And Emma Swan" He said. Emma walked to the front looking sad
"You guys all know I have what they call a, uh Troubled past. But, youve been able to overlook it because of the, um Hero thing. But heres the thing – the fire was a setup. Mr. Gold agreed to support me in this race, but I didnt know that that meant he was going to set a fire. I dont have definitive evidence, but Im sure. And the worst part of all this was – the worst part of all this is – I let you all think it was real. And I cant win that way. Im sorry" Mr Gold walked out the hall as everyone watched him giving dirty looks.
Emma left and after I had voted Henry and I went to Granny's to find Emma.
"Hey" Said Emma with a drink in her hand as me and Henry sat next to her. Henry pulled out the three walkie talkies and gave one to me and Emma "What's this for?" Emma asked
"You stood up to Mr. Gold. Its pretty amazing" Said Henry
"Well, he did something illegal" Said Emma
"Thats what heroes do, expose stuff like that. I shouldnt have given up on Operation Cobra" Said Henry. Just then Regina and Sidney walked in
"I thought I might find you here. With a drink. And my kids" Said Regina
"Here to card me, officer?" Emma asked
"Well, not at all. In fact, I think Ill join you" Said Sidney
"Here? I dont know. I think theyre setting up a back room for the victory party" Said Emma
"Oh, well, youll have to tell me what thats like" Sidney replied
"Congratulations. Sheriff Swan" Said Regina handing Emma the badge
"Wait, what?" She asked
"It was a very close vote, but people really seem to like the idea of a Sheriff brave enough to stand up to Mr. Gold" Said Regina
"Are you joking?" Emma asked
"She doesnt joke" Said Sidney
"You didnt pick a great friend in Mr. Gold, Miss Swan, but he does make a superlative enemy. Enjoy that" Said Regina
Everyone celebrated that night. Ruby and I had a great time together.
"I wanted to ask you something" She said
"More questions?" I asked teasing her
"We've had fun on our dates, how would you like to make it exclusive?" She asked
"What? Be like girlfriends?" I asked
"Yeah" She said staring down at me
"I'd love to!" I said. We kissed again and she lifted me off my feet making me laugh
"Hey sounds like you two are having fun" Said Emma walking over to us. She noticed us holding hands "Wait, are you two..." She asked
"Yeah" I said smiling so much
"Aw that's so great!" She said before leaving us alone.
