Monday morning, I was working a very tense shift at the diner! Granny and Ruby had been arguing earlier when I came in and you could cut the tension with a knife! Ruby had been talking to August, the random new guy in town! Henry had been really sceptical of him at first, but I had talked to him a few times in the dinner and he seemed really nice! We had bonded over books! He had noticed my copy of Safe, the book I was currently reading and he told me all about how he had met the author. He seemed nice and I had told Ruby about him.
"Ruby" Granny yelled from the counter while she talked to August. She pretended not to hear him
"Ruby" She called again
"Just a minute!" Ruby yelled back
"Ruby stop flirting and get over here!" Granny yelled. She came storming over to Granny clearly angry
"I can't believe you did that! That was humiliating! Not to mention not true" She yelled
"I needed you to come over here! I want to start training you to do the books and the reorders. Business is booming lately, and, with more money, comes more paperwork" She told Ruby
"Yeah. None of that sounds good" Ruby said
"Its got to be done" Said Granny ignoring Ruby complaining
"Is this a punishment for talking to that guy?" Ruby asked
"Yeah, I mean she wasn't flirting... with him anyway" I said trying to lift the tension a little
"If I wanted to punish you, Id have better reasons. For one thing, you were late. For another thing, Liza, you dress like a drag queen during Fleet Week" Granny said infuriating Ruby even more
"And you dress like Norman Bates when he dresses like Norman Bates mother" Ruby said furiously
"Ruby, youre a grown woman. You cant keep acting like some kid" Granny replied
"You just want me to act like you until I turn into you. Well, I am not a fossil yet, Granny. I should be out there having adventures with lemurs!" Ruby spat at Granny from her frustration
"Well, as long as you work here, you are going to listen to me" Granny said making it so much worse
"I didnt ask to work here" Ruby said breathing hard, if it was possible, I swear she would have had steam bursting through her ears!
"Well, then whats keeping ya?" Granny asked
"Nothing! I quit!" Ruby yelled as she tore off her apron and running out
"Ruby wait!" I yelled running after her. She was storming down the street, I had to run after her, and keep up a jog while trying to talk to her "Where are you going?"
"I have no idea, but I'm not staying here a second more!" She said
"What? Storybrook? Your leaving?!" I asked
"I can't stay! I should be having adventures and living my life instead of staying here, being controlled by her!" She replied
"Ok, but you don't have to leave" I said trying to convince her that quitting her job was enough for what she wanted
"Come with me!" She said stopping at the corner
"What?" I asked
"Come with me! We can go exploring! We can go to Greece, you always wanted to go didn't you?" She asked
"I mean, yeah, but I can't just leave!" I said
"Why not?! We could be on a plane this time tomorrow, off to Greece, go swimming in crystal blue water, bathing and getting a tan in the sun! We'd be together! We could explore the entire world, together!" She said holding my hands. I could see the hope in her eyes. Pun wasn't intended! She looked so desperate to go, to get out of here, to leave
