"Tell Dad that I'm sleeping over Violet's place tonight." I call my mom, sitting on the hood of Jace's car, later that night.
"Violet?" My mom pouts. "Sweetheart, I thought you were with Cassandra?"
"Yeah, that's what I meant, and you know she prefers to be called CJ." I expertly change the topic.
Jace nudges my shoulder from where he's sitting next to me. "What'd she say?" He asks excitedly.
I put my hand up and lean away from him.
"Wynter, are you there?" My mom's voice buzzes into my ear.
"Yeah, what did you say again?"
"Do you have a change of clothes?" She questions.
Jace starts gripping my thigh. I frown and yank it away, trying to concentrate on my mother. He just snickers.
"And you do know it's a school night, right?" My mother goes on. "How are you getting to school?"
Jace leans in next to me and starts moaning. My eyes nearly pop out of my head. I fall off of the car and onto the street in front of Jace's house.
"Wynter!" My mom squeaks. "What on Earth was that?"
I glare at Jace. "Nothing Mom. I can borrow something of CJ's, and she'll give me a ride too." I try desperately to keep my composure. "Everything is fine."
She sounds hesitant, but she finally says goodnight and hangs up.
"What the actual hell, Jace!" I storm over and shove him. Jace falls back literally choking on laughter.
"It was funny." He gasp. "Your face was all oh my gosh!" He bats his dark lashes.
I roll my eyes. "Your definition of funny is twisted."
He bites his bottom lip until his breathing is even again and all the while he watches me pacing back and forth. He grins madly.
"Do you think she bought it?" I glance at him.
"Of course." Jace shrugs. "What are we doing tonight?"
Jace swings his legs over the side of the car so that he's leaning against it. "Rob a bank, mug some old ladies....vandalism?"
"Nothing. Today has been crappy. Let's just sleep." I sigh. With what happened today with Hudson, I can't wait for this day to be over.
Jace arches one of his eyebrows, sending me this suggestive look.
"Not together!" I start blushing. "I mean we'll be sleeping but we won't be sleeping. Why do we even use the same word for two very different actions."
Jace rests his hands on my shoulders. "I know what you meant." He chuckles.
I go from embarrassed to angry in two seconds flat. I slap Jace's chest. "Then why did you do your little eyebrow dance?" I slap him again.
Jace brakes into a full on grin. "Why did I just moan at the mayor's wife over the phone? I love messing with you."
I slap his chest, this time with an ulterior motive: he has a nice chest.
Jace hugs me to stop me from hitting him, and I allow it.
"Can we watch a movie, I'd at least like to be treated to a nice film before you sleep with me." Jace pouts his lips.
I roll my eyes. "You have no shame, do you?" I snort, making my way up to his house.
"Nope." He shakes his head, pulling his keys out and unlocking the door. "Not exactly."
