I'm walking down the hall when I notice Violet at her locker.

"Hey, Vi." I say loud enough for her to hear me.

Violet glances at me, then past me. She slams her locker shut and rushes past me without even looking my way.

I whirl around and watch her go to Cassandra, who gives me this horribly dirty look before walking off.

I frown. "Hey, what the hell is your problem, Cass?" I speed after my friends.

"You're my problem, Wynter." CJ says over her shoulder.

"What is that supposed to mean?" I pout.

"It just means he's rubbing off on you, Wynter." Violet says regretfully. She and CJ stop walking.

"Who?" I ask. "Jace?"

"You talk like him. You act like him. You're even wearing his clothes." Cassandra hisses.

I look down at Jace's sweatshirt. "He let me borrow it, and to be fair I was going to give it back today."

"Well he gives me the creeps." CJ shudders.

"This isn't fifth grade." I roll my eyes. "Just grow up. If you don't like Jace, then you don't like me."

Cassandra shrugs. "In that case, I really don't like Jace." Then she storms off.

"Sorry." Violet says before following after her.

"Whatever." I mutter, even though no one can hear me.

I watch as my two best friends leave me.

Instead of going to my first period class, I find Jace's. He tells his teacher that he has to use the bathroom before meeting me outside in the hall.

"Do you want to talk about it?" He kisses my cheek, running his fingertips along my arm.

I frown. "Cassandra hates me for dumping Hudson and..." I decide not to finish my sentence, for the sake of Jace's feelings.

"And?" He urges the rest of my thought out into existence.

"And dating you." I tell him.

"Should we seek revenge or her too?" Jace grins deviously. His hand drags down my arm, resting at the small of my back. Jace presses my body against his, his other hand plays in my hair.

"No." I shake my head, smiling all the same. "I just feel like I'm losing everyone. My brother, my friends. The only person who's really on my side is my dad," and that will probably change when my father actually meets Jace.

"Hey." Jace grips both of my cheeks and kisses me firmly. "You have me."

I look Jace in the eyes. The pretty blues of his eyes takes and flicks the florescent lights back, making them seem softer.

"I know." I cover his hands with mine where they hold onto my face. "But everything is still falling apart."

"Then I'll pick up the piece." Jace says bluntly.

This makes me smile. His willingness to give me happiness at all cost, like I'm the most important thing in his life.

"Okay." I kiss Jace. "Okay, everything will be fine." I tell myself.
