I have my final class with Hudson. The entire period is pretty much a game of footsie and intense eye contact.
"What are you wearing tonight?" Hudson Deckland, my boyfriend of a year, asks me as he drives us home from school.
"You'll see." I smile mysteriously.
He grins. "Are you busy, right now?" He glances out the window at my house which just recently swam into view. "Your parents are out, and Keegan is still at school. Right?"
"I'm not sure if I'm dealing with a horny boyfriend or a stalker." I laugh, slapping his chest. I lean over the console to kiss him.
"But I can't. I promised CJ and Violet that they could come over and fix me up for tonight." I smile against his lips.
"Can't I watch?" He kisses my neck.
"I'm pretty sure that's bad luck."
"That's for weddings-"
A truck honks at us. I turn around to find CJ and Violet making embaressing kissy faces while getting out.
"Always use protection, kids." Violet snickers, tapping on the window.
I roll my eyes, kiss Hudson bye, and join my friends up the pathway to my house.
Violet and I head upstairs while CJ stays behind to ransack my kitchen. Her parents are testing out being vegans, and all she ever gets at home is tofu, which she hates. So for the time being, as a good friend, I let her clear our pantry out, and always leave my parents blaming it on Keegan.
"He's coming around six, so we have about three hours." I say when I see CJ coming up stairs with a bag of chips, a poptart, and cookies I didn't even know we had.
Violet slaps her hands onto her hips, and smirks. "Let's get started then."
And we do. An hour later I look into my mirror. My normally wavy hair straightened; I'm wearing a dramatic black dress with a pair of red heels.
As I wait for the cherry red polish on my nails to dry, we can hear the door slam shut downstairs. The girls quiet down.
"Keegan?" I know it's him, but I ask out of precaution.
"Tell mom I'm having dinner at Zach's house." Keegan swings into my room. Like me, he has green eyes and light brown hair. He nods at CJ and Violet when he sees them, then looks back at me. "So are you going to do it?" He asks.
I shrug. "Yeah, of course."
"Good." He begins down the hall before stopping. "Happy one year with Deckland. He's good for you, Wynter." Keegan smiles.
I want to get up and hug the life out of him, but Keegan isn't much of a hugger and I don't want to smudge up my nails. Instead I just smile back at him.
"Thanks."
He shrugs, and disappears down the hall to his bedroom.
Violet purses her lips. "I wish Sadie and I were like that." She says, commenting on her 14 year old sister. "She's such a bitch some times, but I love her. I have to."
"Yeah, Keegan is a pretty good brother." I say with a smile.
Later that evening after Violet and CJ have left, Hudson shows.
"I'm looking into Stanford." Hudson Deckland says with a smile.
The smile that literally says I'm rich, and hot, and ridiculously smart. Oh, and did I mention how rich I am? The smile that makes parents' metaphorical panties drop.
And by the adoring looks on my mother and father's faces, they're eating it all up.
"Oh, sweetheart." My mother exclaims. "That's just wonderful." She jitters with excitement on the living room love seat, next to my dad.
