CHAPTER 17

NICOLE

I woke up in an unfamiliar room. Where am I? I looked around the room and its painted blue, and there are a lot of basketball trophies and medals. Whose room is this?

“Good, you’re awake.” A familiar voice suddenly spoke. Oh no, I turned around and saw Richard.

          Fuck.

God, please be good. Not now, please. I started begging that maybe I’m just dreaming, but no. he was actually standing by the door with a tray of noodles in his hands.

“How are you feeling?” he asked. I froze as the memory flashes back in my mind. I suddenly felt my tears clouding up my eyes. I looked away and fight back the tears that were threatening to fall.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” he asked as he placed down the tray on the bedside table.

“Where am I?” I asked instead, avoiding his question.

“In my room. I followed you last night after you ran away. We were so worried, what happened?” he looked at me with worried eyes. Richard, please stop.

“It’s not important.” I answered, impassive.

“What do you mean, it’s not important?” he raised his voice. “Do you know what you looked like when I saw you?” he eyed me. “You were a mess –”

“- a mess because of you!” I yelled. I can’t control my emotions anymore. I cannot prolong the agony. He froze, he raised his eyebrow as he asked softly,

          “Me? What did I do?”

I looked away, not wanting to keep eye contact with him.

I shrugged. “Nothing. It’s not important.”

“Not important?” he shrieked. “You were hot as fire and you’re telling me that it’s not important? You barely can’t move, then you’re telling me that it’s not important!” he growled. “Fuck it, Nicole. Tell me!” he demanded. I was shivering with anger, but I managed to control it.

“I don’t wanna talk about it.” I sighed.

“I better get going. Thanks for letting me stay.” I looked away and managed to reach my purse despite of this fucking headache and a broken heart. He took my bag away from me.

“You’re not going anywhere unless you tell me what’s wrong.” He glared at me.

          “No.” I coldly said.

Richard, I don’t wanna hurt you. Let’s just forget about this, okay? I don’t want you to know that I like you… yet. You might just hurt me. I’m just protecting my heart although it’s already broken.

“The fuck, Nicole! Stop making this harder!”

“It’s harder than you think, Richard.” I snapped.

“You know what? I don’t fucking care!” he snarled.

“I saw you and Danielle kissed.” I said quietly as a tear escaped my eye. He turned around and looked at me with an unreadable look.

“So?” he cocked his head to one side.

Ouch, that hurts. He doesn’t even care.

“So what if we’ve kissed, Nicole? I didn’t know it was illegal.” He impassively said, obviously irritated and annoyed. Talk about caring!

“I-I like you.” I stammered as tears are already streaming down my face. There I said it, be ready for the consequences.

“Y-you like me?” he questioned eyes full of concern. Seriously, are you deaf? Instead, I nodded.

“Nicole, you can’t like me.” He looked away.

          “Why?” I sobbed.

“Because… because –” a loud bang came from the door.

“Hello, anybody home?” somebody called out. Richard looked at me and sighed.

“We’ll talk about this later.” With that, he left me gaping at him.
