2. Learning

You've chosen to read a book now, but can one really learn how to write by reading a book?

Yes, you can.

Have you ever read your school textbooks before?

Okay, you will remember now.

But you know, sometimes when we read our school textbooks, we have a complete knowledge or partial knowledge about the topic.

To my own one-time teachers who read out from their textbooks as explanation and finish with... "If there is anything you don't understand well, read your textbook very well." And the next class, you know that teacher who never explains will ask you questions, so you read and read. It's annoying seeing the whole class laugh while they are silently begging God not to be called because they don't know it too.

To that my secondary school teacher who will ask for chair, sit, dictate and dictate till her time is over. Come back the next day and dictate. Come back the following week and dictate. Come back next term and dictate. Come back next year and dictate and dictate. My dear, you already know these teachers if you attended public school. You don't bother to write, you rather bring out your textbook whenever she's dictating to save yourself from screaming and shouting, "ma, what did you say," to that grammar you initially heard but asked again because you can't spell. I've been there. They ended up getting up to write the grammar on the board before we render them deaf and dumb.

Hey, let's not laugh, great writers frown their faces😂.(No be by face though).

So, did you end up passing those subjects or not?

If you do, then you have higher chances of learning and redefining the styles of these authors to write your next book.

What do you want to learn from them?

When you begin to read, pick a pen and paper to capture the style of the author forever.

I know I told you not to choose any book base on feelings, but you can always go back to those books you've read in the past. That book you wonder how on earth someone came up with a story as beautiful as this. This is a case where the book left you speechless, and you just can't recover or get your mind off it.

Read that book again with the heart of learning to know what made the book so special.

At the end of the day, you might realize you are not limited to read or write one genre forever. These authors can make you fall in love with another genre and that might be your breaking point.

Note: I love reading nonfiction books and romance. I wanted to write stories about married couples, but reading different genres, and proceeding to write teen fiction was my breaking point.

Video to this session is finally coming up. It's a little more different with what I have written.

See you soon for the third point,
Thank you for reading
