Evangeline
Two months. Two months have passed and Evangeline is livid with herself. So much for 'temporary'. She let herself be happy, get comfortable. How stupid of her. The evening before, she returned home safely, and the evening closed as it often would. The girl fell asleep in Techno's lap, warmed by the fireplace. A week ago they had found out that she couldn't read, so Technoblade has been teaching her every night. She didn't tell anyone about her incournter, afraid that she would worry them. She usually had dreamless nights, falling asleep against her brother, but that evening something stirred in her. She dreamed of Marshall. Maybe the feeling of being part of a family brought up the memories. Maybe it was Dream. Regardless, she woke up distraught. It wasn't a sad dream per say, but an endless flow of tears now fall from her face. With broken horror, she realizes: she found her family. Dream's words from yesterday flood into her mind. Are you sure that's a good idea? I mean, considering who you are. In blinded rage, she grabs her bag from her room, nauseated by the urge to get in her bed and go back to sleep. No! The damage has been done. She has to leave. She must have woken up Philza as he is standing in the kitchen with a shocked look on his face.
"What's the matter?"
"I'm leaving." Evangeline wipes the tears from her eyes and tries to push past him.
"Why? I thought you were happy here!" Philza fully blocks the door.
"I- I am!" Her voice is raspy as she screams, "Can't you see that's the problem? I fucked up Phil. I love you guys too much. You- you're my family. That's why I'm leaving. Before I can hurt you."
"No, I don't understand!"
"I'm a monster," every emotion is being hurled into her plea, "you may not see it but it will never change the fact that I am. I let someone love me once, and- and- it's all my fault!" She runs at the door and pushes Philza to the side with more force than she meant to. She doesn't have time to look back, no time to regret not saying goodbye. Clutching her satchel tight to her body, she takes to the sky, now skilled with her flight thanks to the persistence of her family. No. She can't dwell now. Higher and faster, pushing the pain of heartbreak away with the strain of her muscles. In the corner of her eye, she sees the flash of a green jacket. Dream. Swooping down faster than a hawk, she lands right in front of him. Dream raises a sword, but upon realizing it's her he drops it and opens his arms.
"Dream! You were right!" She runs into his welcoming embrace. "I was putting them in danger, I ran away to keep them safe!"
"Shh, it's ok, you did the right thing," Dream whispers into her ear, trying not to cringe at the touch of the trembling girl.
Dream
Dream leads Evangeline to his campsite and she collapses shortly after. The girl is asleep. Dream wonders if he should even bless her with the title 'girl'. Whatever she is, she's a threat. Anyone possessing wings like hers is a danger to him and his ambitions. Carefully, he slides her satchel out from under her arms. Distaste is the only word for the way Dream rummages through her few belongings. Dropping the bag, he pulls out the only item of interest. Delicately, he runs his fingers down the smooth wood of the violin. He glances back up at the girl, and watches a moment to make sure she is sleeping peacefully. Without a second more of hesitation, he smashes the instrument against tree. Reckless fury sends shards in all directions. Dream then picks up the survivor, the bow, and snaps it over his knee. After a few heavy breaths, he fixes his posture and withdrawals from his savage state. With a satisfied sigh, he throws the evidence deep into the woods before joining Evangeline in her napping.
A/N So uh... things are heating up a bit! In case it wasn't clear, Evangeline ran away to 'protect' her family because Dream manipulated her to.
