Leona woke up the next day and for the fraction of a second she felt as if everything was normal. Then she realised it wasn't. At all.

The one person who had hated her without even knowing her name had finally come to a truce with her. She knew more about him than she knew about her closest friends. And now, that peaceful bliss since Draco had become more like a friend, was about to be destroyed.

She thought of the time Draco had seemed to want to strangle her, and then she thought of the time he had confided in her alone. She didn't want to leave that behind, she wanted to hold onto that. But she couldn't...could she?

Leona was dreading the next time they had prefect duties, but all too soon herself and Draco were standing with Alexander and Robyn.

"Robyn, can I come with you today?" Leona asked, ignoring the strange look from Draco.

"Um...sorry Leona but me and Alexander..." She hesitated and Alexander took her hand in his, "We're sort of together. But please don't say anything, it's not supposed to happen." Robyn was grinning and Leona knew inside she would never tell.

"Oh alright, go on." Leona smiled, "Have fun, but not too much!" Robyn blushed.

"Shut up, Leona!" Then she and Alexander walked away, hand in hand.

"What was that?" Draco hissed, "What did you hear?"

"I was j-" Leona stopped, suddenly suspicious, "What did I hear?" She raised her eyebrows at him.

He stared back at her, seeming to be formulating an answer in his head, "Oh nothing. Nothing at all."

Leona saw straight through his lie, "Oh really?"

"On to more important things, why did you ask Robyn that?"

"Oh- I just... I just felt like a change, you know?"

Draco rolled his eyes, "Whatever, let's go."

Leona sighed, relieved that Draco wasn't angry at her. They patrolled the hallways, conversation flowing.

"They all suck."

Leona laughed at his bluntness, "Surely you like them, they are your friends."

"Ha! Very funny, in Slytherin there's no such thing as 'friends'. The rule is just to help yourself."

"Really? It must be awful to be in Slytherin." Draco stared at her, eyebrows raised, "Oh no! I just me-"

"Actually, it's true. Nobody would help you if you were stuck, no one even cares about anyone else. Bet that doesn't happen in Gryffindor."

It was conversations like these, when Draco was being so open, that Leona didn't want to let go of. But she knew that something would happen if she didn't let go. Se faced the hard choice and had been silent for too long, thinking about it.

"Leona? Are you alright?"

"What? Oh yeah. We always have each other's back." She said, with full confidence that she was right.

Should she have been so sure?

"Psst! Draco!" Leona hissed from an empty classroom as he passed alone. He snapped his head from left to right, wondering where the noise was coming from, "Over here! Draco!"

He spotted her but looked confused, "What are you doing in there?"

"Just come in here!" She demanded, giving him no choice but to oblige.

"But i need to go an-"

"Draco Malfoy! Come in here!"

"Fine, fine! Sheesh, woman!" He frowned and entered the classroom, "Now will you tell me why you're in here."

Leona stopped and realised for the first time, she never thought of what she would do next. She had just assumed Draco wouldn't have wanted to be ordered by her and have left. Now she was stuck as of what to do next. She didn't want to run the risk of Draco storming to Blaise because he would know it was her. But she needed to get it off her chest. What to do!

"Oh um, I just...wanted to come in here?" Leona said raising her voice at the end, so it sounded like a question.

Draco nodded suspiciously, "Oh really? You just fancied it, did you?"

"Yes, I like it because it's an old..." She looked around the room and recognised it from a while ago, "muggle studies classroom."

She hadn't taken muggle studies, being a muggle-born, there was no need to learn more.

"This was always the worst subject, muggles are so boring!"

Leona frowned, "Hey! My parents are muggles!"

"And what do they do for a living?" He smirked, knowing it was going to be something really boring, unlike being an auror which would be full of excitement.

Leona muttered, "They have office jobs."

"Exactly. Anyway, I have actually got to go so I'll j-" Leona cut him off.

"No wait! I just..um..." She hesitated but decided to blurt out, "Draco! I need to tell you something! Yesterday...look, I think we need to stop hanging out."

Draco's eyes hardened and he clenched his jaw. Being a Malfoy, he had to hide any emotion he had, even if it meant hiding that he didn't want to stop being friends with her. She was the only friend he had that would never try to backstab him.

"Fine. Bye." He marched right past her.

The first thought that crossed the shy girl's mind was 'Is that it? Did he not care for her enough to mind what she was saying?'

"Fine." She spat. Hurt that he hadn't even cared. She didn't want him to feel hurt but a little emotion would have been more comforting.

Draco glared at her, "Good."

"Good." She stormed past him, out of the classroom, leaving him standing there confused. She had ended the friendship with him? Not the other way round. He sighed and left the room.

Neither of them noticing the bright green eye peeking out from the empty closet of the room.

Unfortunately for them.
