Draco got up from a strange knock. His head snapped towards the window and he saw the familiar black owl and his heart sunk.
'No, no, no! Please not today, why was this happening to him?' He thought desperately.
'To Draco,'
Draco did not fail to notice the bland and unfeeling introduction to the letter from his 'Father'. If he even deserved that title.
'You must know now that the agreement has been made. The deal is done and it is all in your hands. Our whole future, so do not mess it up. There is no use in me pretending that there will not be consequences should you fail. So don't.
From Lucius.'
Draco scowled at the pitiless, stony letter that matched Lucius' personality. It felt as though his stomach had disappeared, the sickness of what he had to do, fresh in his mind.
If only his father - Draco gagged, that man was not his father any more - was how he used to be. Life was normal before the Dark Lord came around.

A four year old sat on his haunches in the middle of the room, crouched over a set of Quidditch players, laughing as he made them fly around.
He could hear the faint voice of his mother on the phone.
"-he's can't know! You are not allowed to tell him, are you crazy? He's too young! Fine, bye!" His mother yelled.
The blonde boy was too young to realise the real meaning of those words.
"Mummy!" He entered the kitchen and clasped his little arms around her legs in a comforting embrace, "Are you ok? Look, I want to show you something, it'll really cheer you up! I learnt a new trick with the Quidditch players!" He grabbed her hand and dragged her through to the living room, a smile playing on her lips.
Her little boy never failed to make her laugh, even in the dark moments. "What trick have you learnt?" She asked softly, eyes twinkling as she watched her son fumble with the figurines.
"Mummy, I learnt t-"
A door opening and closing stopped him from continuing.
"Daddy's home!" He jumped up and rushed towards the elder man that held the utmost respect in his eyes. His Father picked him up and twirled him around, plastering on a smile for Draco. The stress from the day dissolving as he held his son close.
"How's my little boy been? Looking after Mum, I hope?" He raised his eyebrows.
"Of course, Daddy. I was going to show her a new trick, look!" He turned his little body to his toys, not noticing the distressed glance passed between his parents.
The family of three sat in a circle playing around with each other, laughing.
If only life could have stayed the same.

Draco sat down, torn between feeling of anger and nostalgia. He would give anything to be back there, sitting between his parents, before they decided that he was old enough to carry a world of pressure on his shoulders.
