My First Dance

It was a party at Rewa's,

Both of us a little out of place.

Me by the bar,

And you fidgeting by the flower vase.
I was about to leave,

When a slow song came by.

I was drunk just enough

To ask you for a dance.

You were tired,

But you said yes as the song came by.

Just in time for me to mouth,

"You look wonderful tonight."

I remember you smiling,

And me smiling back at you.

You stepped on my favorite shoes,

And somehow I wasn't angry.

You erased my Monday blues,

And my heart took a fancy

Of you.
You started swaying to the tune,

And I followed your lead.

Your presence was a boon;

The child in me was freed.

The song slowed to light humming,

And I felt your breath on my shoulder.

Somewhere the strings started strumming,

I had never been better.
It's been long since that day,

And we've come a long way.

You're still with me,

And our song just started playing.

Can I interest you in another dance?
