Mal's POV:

I woke up to the sound of chairs being moved around me. As I open my eyes, they take a minute to adjust.

My head is pounding.

I look up to see Mitch and Ree in the booth along with me still passed out.

Ugh, I'm still in the bar.

I turn my head to see Mark the bar tender, "morning sleepy head" he says way too loud. "Shhhh turn off your mouth siren" I say putting my head back down. "The bar's gonna open in a bit" he says chuckling to himself.

I grown. "Want some water?" He asks, I can hear the smirk on his face. "Yes please, can you poor some for these bozo's too?" I ask gesturing to the still sleeping Ree and Mitch across from me. "Sure" he answers.

"Hey guys. Wake up! We fell asleep here we gotta go to work. Ree the shop needs you and Mitch your clients need you too."

Ree runs a little boutique down town where all the hipsters hang out and Mitch works at the studio as a co-producer putting together beats for musicians.

They both groan and I take the cup of water and chug it, trying to rid myself of an awful hangover, knowing I have to work soon. "Mark what time is it?" I say groggily "almost 7:00am" he says and I jump up "shit!" I say panicked, collecting my things. "I have to work at 7:00am" I get up and dash out the door. And then I come back in and tip Mark because he let us sleep here. I run out the door leaving Ree and Mitch to fend for themselves.

....

After getting into the Waffle House looking as rough as ever, I set up my station waiting for Mr. Neil. As I go through my apron pulling out my note pad and pen, I pull out a folded piece of paper. Opening it up, my eyes take a minute to focus as I'm still extremely nauseous. I see the numbers

310-545-8012 ;)

H.

Instantly remembering what it is I fold it back up and put it back in my apron.

I don't know why I'm holding onto it.

What if he comes in today? What am I gonna say? Pretend I didn't see it? Maybe just don't serve him? No I can't do that.

I'm interrupted from my thoughts when the door opens. Prepared to see Mr. Neal, I look up smiling, but to my surprise it's someone I've never seen before.

"Malarie?" He says, "yes that's me" I say with a smile. "Are you Albert Neil's regular server?" I start to get a little confused but answer his question. "Yes I am, what's this about?" I say, starting to loose my happy server voice. He takes a second and looks at me solemnly. "Malarie, I'm afraid Mr Neil took quite a fall in his apartment yesterday night, he doesn't have any family and I was sent by the hospital to find you at his request." He finishes speaking and I loose my smile completely. Mr. Neil has been my only family besides Ree and Mitch for the last two years. He was like a grandfather to me.
