"Yah! Ni-Ki! Eat your food! No! No! No! Don't go there! You will hurt yourself! Ni-Ki!" the elderly woman shouted at the giggling prince who ran around the palace with her in tow. "Catch me if you can!~ Catch me if you can!~ nana~" the prince singsonged at his grandma as he ran away. "Ni-Ki! Nana is already getting old, she is not able to chase after you like before!" the woman said gently as she followed the 9 year old prince to the living room of the gigantic palace that they lived in.
"No! my nana is not old! In fact, she is the most young and beautiful woman in our entire kingdom!" the boy said as he embraced his nana. The woman chuckled as she ran her hands through her grandsons brown hair. "Hmm... Am I?" the boy nodded his head at his nana. "Yes. I love my nana very much." The woman giggled yet again at her grandsons cuteness. "You do my Riki?" "Yes.." the boy mumbled as he dug his face in his nana's stomach while hugging her tightly. "Then will you eat your food without troubling nana if you love her so much?" the woman bribed the young prince which he fell for and nodded his head accepting his grandma's request.
Nishimura Yua the queen mother of the current monarch Nishimura Haruki of Japan was the only woman in the crown Prince Nishimura Riki's life. Ni-Ki lost his mother Nishimura Aoi when he was very young so his grandparents took the load of bringing him up on their shoulders. Ni-Ki's grandfather Nishimura Ryoma had passed away when Ni-Ki was five and ever since then his grandma had been his sole family. Sure, his majesty was still alive and breathing, but he never really spent time with his son. He was the king and he had the Kingdom to look after hence leading him to be partially excluded from his son's life. He was never really present in the most important moments of his son's life but he loved and adored his son a lot as he saw his late wife's quality and habits in his son more as he grew up.
Though Ni-Ki never had his father's presence much in his life while growing up, he knew his father cared for him a lot and didn't wish any harm on him. Reason? His father had appointed a personal Knight just for him. He has not met that Knight of his yet but he really hopes he will meet him soon enough.
He was a prince hence having friends was something he wanted but never did. Because, he knew, people would only use him for his prestige and status. Therefore, the prince was always lonely. Having a knight means he would have a friend, who would not use him for his status, be there for him, protect him, basically everything a friend would do.
The 9 year old just couldn't wait.

Days passed into months, months passed into years and the once nine year old prince turned 15. In this age, he was quite the more famous for his ethereal looks and his unreal talent for dance. It was just an ordinary day but it turned the absolute opposite when Ni-Ki was called in the throne room by his father along with the message that it was an extremely important topic and that it was an emergency.
The 15 year old confusedly walked towards the throne room with nothing but fear in mind. He has never been called by his father for any emergency situations ever before. So, this was the first and to say Ni-Ki was scared was a big understatement. He has always been scared of his father because Nishimura Haruki was very strict. H e had Ni-Ki raised like how the hen raises its egg. He has protected Ni-Ki like a he was a delicate flower.
Ni-Ki never had his mother for many of the things. Mrs. Nishimura Aoi was long gone before Ni-Ki could even utter his first word. So, it was safe to say that Ni-Ki never really saw his mother. Even if he did, it was only for a short while so he doesn't remember her face.
From all the rumors and stories he had heard from his now old grandma, his mother used to be the most beautiful lady in the entire kingdom. She had a long black hair that reached her waist with electric gray eyes that captivated every inch of his father's heart. And just like the cherry on top, his mother had full red lips despite the fact that she was a vampire. She was really kind and was against human slavery and had also advised his father to end the tradition as she ascended the throne as the queen. His grand parents adored her a lot. Her kind, caring, layed back, calm, patient and delicate yet fierce nature made her appealing to everyone around her. Therefore, she was loved by every single person in the kingdom. Her loss was the darkest memory in the history of Japan.
The large golden portals of the throne room let out a squeaking sound as it turned open to let him see the glorious room filled with gold. The throne was covered red with the velvet while the respected heir sat on it with pride evident in his posture. Ni-Ki looked up to his father after the bow of greetings who sat high above the stairs of marble where his throne was situated.
His father had a look that scared Ni-Ki to no end. The boy gulped as he lowered his eyes.
"Riki," , the boy felt shivers down his spine as he heard his father say his real name. "You do know about the war, don't you?" His father continued.
His father was someone who went straight to the point. So as soon as he received his son's meek nod of acknowledgement he placed the matter out.
"Riki, the war has been going on for centuries between us vampires and the slayers. The war is at it's peak now. It requires me there... Hence, as per our tradition, you will be throned the day after tomorrow as the king of the country."
