These two weeks have been by far the most amazing weeks Karen and I have spent together but sadly she had to get back to business. It was 5:30am, I was up early ready to drive her to the airport then go to school. She'll only be gone for 4 short days then be back in Miami for our 8 year anniversary! How exciting!
"Are you sure you have everything you need? Charger, toothbrush, schedule, towels, hair dryer?" I looked through her luggage and made sure she had all the things I listed. "Hellooo? Are you even listening?"
She came in the room with her hands piled with clothes and threw them onto the bed, then started quickly searching through them. "Uh, yes im listening im sorry im just trying to hurry. Do you mind helping me? Im looking for my pink tube top." She kept shuffling through her clothes, which I knew I'd have to clean up myself later tonight. I walked over to our night stand and reached into the drawer. "You mean this one?" I pulled out her top and tossed it in her luggage.
"Yes yes thank you! I think I'm all set to go now, we need to hurry the plane leaves in an hour." We left the house and were on our way.
I dropped Karen off and gave her a big goodbye hug and a kiss then was on my way to school.
In my office, i sat patiently waiting and planning for my first class. My administrators had me sitting in on science and research clases so I can get the hang of the whole teaching thing. I looked at the time and decided I should start heading to class so I be settled and ready to go before the student come in.
Just as I was locking my door, I heard a voice calling me from a few feet away.
"Ms. Lorena Cruz?"
I turned around to see the schools principal George Castela. He was a tall older man with glasses and a mustache to complement them. He was known for his ridiculously goofy ties, which today in fact he had a blue tie with yellow rubber ducks on it. How interesting. "Yes, what seems to be the problem?"
"Oh no problem here Cruz! Good news, in fact! It looks like one of our professors in the science department quit this morning. All he left was a note on his door saying that he will not be working for us any more and that he apologizes for leaving without notice. We tried contacting him but his cell phone seems to be cut off and we have yet to receive a reply to an email we sent." That seemed rather odd. Who quits a high paying job with no notice? And just leaves a note? Not even a well written one just a plain old 'im not working for you anymore'.
"So this means..."
"This means that classroom is now available! For you!" He said all jittery and excitingly. "Of course you'll have to wait till the next quarter to get a class, just because that's when students pick their new classes. Three weeks at most!"
I tried not to make it obvious that i was excited but man was i excited! This is just what I've been waiting for! I couldn't help but have a big smile. "Thank you so much Castela! I really appreciate the opportunity it's all I've been waiting for!"
"No problem! I'll have someone email you the teaching workshop schedule so you can get into your new routine and know what is to be taught. You'll be starting soon so be prepared!" He gave me an awkward pat on the shoulder then went about his day.
During my lunch break, I went and sat in the food court at an empty table and started doing research on my laptop. I tried calling karen to share the good news but I didn't get an answer so I just sent a text instead. Besides the excitement of that, I was mainly focused on checking my email and beginning some of the workshops online.
"Hey Ms. Lorena!" I looked up from my laptop to see Aaliyah sitting in the chair across from mine. She wore her hair straight today with the cutest blue top. "How do you like your new classroom?"
"Um, great! I went to go check it out this morning.." I was kinda creeped out how she seems to find me in every location, and how informed she was of my recent news.
"That's good to hear, no need to thank me by the way!"
"Wait, what do you mean?" I had a shocked look on my face, what is this girl up to! "You did this!?"
"Just know I cleared up a classroom so that you can have it. I was only trying to help! And don't worry, I'll make sure im the first person to sign up for it." She gave me a warm smile, which was making me feel a little uncomfortable so I looked away, trying not to make eye contact.
"Well It'd be nice having you, thank you for stopping by! I have to go now, see you tomorrow!" I starting packing my things then got up and walked towards my next class, trying to avoid the feeling of her eyes watching me leave.
