As soon as we arrived home I went to my bedroom and opened my drawer. "Where is it..."I thought to myself. I pretty much flipped the whole drawer inside out looking for the tiny folded piece of paper with Aaliyah's number. "Ah-ha!" I reached my hand in and found it caught between a knot of wires and cables. I pulled out my phone from my back pocket and dialed in the number, then realized it would be way safer to just send a text.

"Aaliyah, it's Lorena. Be there in 15."

I didn't waste time waiting for a reply. In the bathroom I just applied a little bit of mascara, checked my hair then went on my way.

I pulled up to the sandwich shop and parked at the far end of the parking lot, trying to make my car as least noticeable as possible. This seemed like a secret mission, almost as if I was having lunch with the enemy. I threw my keys into my purse and tossed it over my shoulder, then began scanning all the faces in my sight for the most familiar one.

The sandwich shop was outdoors, built on a nice and elegant deck with a roof over the kitchen half of it, it kinda gave off an open bar vibe. There were big bright umbrellas over each table. Some tables were long, some were tall two-seaters. I figured Aaliyah was waiting at a two-seater. In the entrance of the deck there were a few steps then the sign in table, so I walked up hoping Aaliyah had written my name down by hers.

"Hi! Table for one?" A tall redhead standing at the sign in table handed me a clipboard to jot down my name.

"Im looking for a girl, Aaliyah Carter? She should have put my name by here." She scanned the list then wrote a check mark by what i hoped was my name. "Yes! Come this way." I followed her to the far right corner of the deck, where Aaliyah was seated.

"Hey! I was starting to think you wouldn't make it." She leaned in for a kiss on the cheek as soon as I took my seat. Wow. Was it me or was it getting hot in here? I couldn't honestly say my main focus at this moment was to keep my face from turning red. "I see you're blushing," she said with a smirk.

"Pshhh, no.." I took a sip of water to hopefully cool my face off. I couldn't help but stare a little, she wore a white sleeveless top, showing off her arm tattoo which I can now clearly see its a rose and a rosary wrapped around it. A silver necklace dangled over her collar bones, and a matching charm bracelet around her wrist. Her hair was straight, and her lips were glossy. That must be why me cheek felt so sticky all of a sudden.

"Do you like it?" She sucked in her bottom lip then poked them out. Shit, she caught me staring at her lips. That's just fucking great. "Do you want some?" She handed me her lipgloss that she got from her purse then rubbed her lips together and smiled.

"Um, no thanks im good. It looks really nice on you though, your boyfriend must like it." I think i hit the jackpot with that! Now the question was there, flat out on the table. This was the moment of truth.

"What? Boyfriend!?" She laughed a little then covered her smile. "No no, I don't have a boyfriend."

"Then who was the guy you kissed today? Black truck? Explain that!" I think I was getting a little over board but who cares, maybe she'll realize i notice everything.

"Messiah!? That's my bestfriend! And you must've seen wrong, I gave him a peck on the cheek, nothing serious." She took a sip from her margarita then put a 'i told you so' look on her face. Okay, that kinda makes sence. She does however seem like the friendly type to kiss as a greeting, I know by experience. And maybe, just maybe, I did see wrong. Maybe it really was just a peck on the cheek?

"So that's your Bestfriend? Not a boyfriend or anything?"

"No not at all!" Just hearing that answer put my mind at ease. Finally I know she doesn't have a boyfriend. But then again why do I care? Why am I worried? Beats me, she can be married for all I care. She sure is beautiful though..

"Oh okay, just asking. Not that I care, i mean, who am I to tell you how to live, right? Why answer silly personal questions from me?" I stopped myself from blabbering about stupid things, I probably embarassed her with all my commotion and questions. Shit, do I do anything right? "Look, im sorry, I-"

"Oh no you're fine! I don't mind answering personal questions." That smirk never seemed to wipe off her face. She did, however, start twirling her hair around her finger then started looking around the shop. I must admit, the sight of her really did make me nervous. It was like she was digging into the deepest corners of my spirit and just filling it with nervousness, like she was TRYING to kill me. And the fact that she just shut me up.. Jesus take the wheel!

"Well how about you start?" I tried to seem as uninterested as possible, but her eyes just seem to look right into mine and I can't help but look back.

"A little shy huh?" She let out a small giggle, i blushed. "Well I should start by asking you if you have a boyfriend, since you know, you asked me.."

"No I don't have w boyfriend, but I have a fiancé. Her name's Karen."

"Ahhh okay so you're on THAT side. I figured. You know, I've never been with a girl, maybe you can show me a couple things.."

I was definetely freaking out. Did she? Did i? What!? She wants me to do WHAT!? I went into complete shock mode.

"I meant show me a couple girls, silly!" Her laugh kinda loosened me up a little bit and I took a sigh of relief. 'Thank God' I thought to myself. I was worried for nothing. Besides, i told her I was engaged, that should be enough for her to step back a little right? Or maybe it wasn't enough?

"It's getting late I should probably get going soon." I sipped the last bit of beverage I had left then looked at my watch to check the time, which in fact I still had 20 minutes until my 'workshop' was over.

"Oh no we were having so much fun! We should pick up where we left off some other time. Maybe at my place? I have champagne?" She put a hopeful smile on her face that I just couldn't resist.

"How about now? I have about 20 minutes till I need to be home." Her smile remained on her face then she grabbed my hand and led to me her car.

It was an awkward 8 minute drive, the atmosphere was silent and all we talked about was the air freshener clip she had in her car. She passed a few houses in a quiet neighborhood until she finally pulled into a driveway of a nice looking condo. "This is it" she said, unlocking the door. She led me in and said to make myself at home, which, i obviously wouldn't because the last thing I need is to make a fool out of myself again. "Champagne?"

"Yes please." I sat with my legs crossed on her black leather couch while I looked around her home. She seemed to be very social, she had pictures of friends, and her bestfriend Messiah pinned all over her walls. She had a flatscreen against the wall a few feet away from the couch i was on, her walls were a peach-pink, which from the look of it must be her favorite color because she wears that color lipstick an awful lot.

She came over and sat an inch or two away from me, our legs just barely touching. After taking a sip from hers, she placed our glasses on the coffee table and faced her attention towards me. "So tell me about this Karen of yours.."

I felt her inching herself more towards me, so i loosened up and looked straight ahead, trying not to make accidental eye contact.

"Well, I've known her for almost 10 years, we've been together for 8. I met her in high school, we were bestfriends and basically one thing led to other and now we're here, getting married in 6 months. She has the cutest dimples, beautiful brown eyes, beautiful light brown hair.." I stopped myself before I could continue.

"That's nice, you two seem good for each other. So tell me," she placed her had on the couch, right between her legs and mine. She tapped her nails on the couch, I felt the small vibrations from it just a centimeter away from my thigh. "Do you love her?"

What kind of a question is that? Of course I love my fiancé i been with her for 8 years. Just as I was about to respond, I get a call from Karen and i pick up within a second, trying to escape the awkward nervousness Aaliyah was putting on me.

A few seconds later we hung up. "I have to get going. She's waiting for me at home." With no questions asked, she drove me back to the sandwich shop so that I can get my car. We said our goodbyes then I went on my way back home.
