Chapter 7-Wolves Eat Cabbage

Landor's POV

I woke up, don't really know how long I was out, but I am guessing it is dinner time. Why do I say that?

I was at a dinner table with Clorida and Herbilin in Herbilin's castle. I looked around and then glanced at the food, a whole pig with the classic apple on its mouth, wine, fruit, bread and smoked salmon. Their we're feathers decorated the plates, it showed wealth. The meal was literally fit for a king.

I also noticed four other people in the room sitting down( there were servants standing) one was a man that looked like Herbilin and one was a woman, well that didn't resemble anyone.

I reached for the pig when a knife struck down at the table just missing my hand. I immediately brought up my hands and glared at the wielder.

It was Clorida, and I said, "What did I do this time?"

She explained, "We have to recite the pledge of

dinner, to give us a good fortune tonight and thanking for what we have."

Then Herbilin rung his fork against the side of his goblet and stood up, "This will be the pledge of Stelant, for Clorida joining is today."

Everyone bowed their heads and Herbilin started, "This is the food of mine, if it is stolen or bought no matter;

No meal to big or small; no meal to fat or lean; no meal fresh or stale;

As long as it makes me strong or fatter;"

Everyone but me joined in,

"May the pockets be full; friend or foe;

Take the foes and leave the friends;

Be sure your pockets are sown;

Breakfast is near;

No matter what happens;

Do not tear;

Your food is here;"

Then everyone lifted their head and Herbilin smirked at me, "Since you didn't say anything, you get fed last."

I argued, "I didn't know it?!?"

Herbilin just passed the plate to everyone else and Clorida started mocking me with the food fanning the smell to me, exaggerating the 'mmm' sound and commenting on how good the food was.

I kicked her from under the table and she glared at me. Then she kicked me in the shin, and I stopped myself from screaming. I then stomped on her foot with my heel.

Then Herbilin shouted, glaring at both of us, "Stop playing footsies and take your food, Landor!"

I got my food, very kind like, and took a whole salmon, some pig, 2 loaves of bread and some of the feathers.

Clorida asked me, still shaken at what Herbilin accused us of doing, "Do you want some wine?"

I said, "No."

Herbilin then said, "Oh c'mon it is good wine, 7 years old."

I then demanded, "I do not drink in the presence of the trickiests of the town. I will not be captured again, simply to enjoy wine. I will not fall into your trap, but only avoid it."

Herbilin then laughed and said, "As you wish... What will you like?"

"I'll make it, where is the kitchen," I stated.

Herbilin sighed and said, "Can't you have one of my chefs prepare it... No offense but I don't trust you near my food."

I sighed, louder and more obnoxious than Herbilin's sigh, and said, "Fine, just get me water then."

Then a servant left the room. Then the man spoke up, "I am Larktin, Herbilin's brother. A farmer up north of Skandorian and this is my wife, Lidalette."

I asked excitedly , "Are you the ones that grows the cabbage?!?!"

He looked at me suspiciously, "Yes... Why?"

I said, "You attract many rabbits, with the great smell of the cabbage, and those rabbits attract wolves. The wolves are very fun to shoot and fight. Oh yes very fun indeed..."

Lidalette said even more excited than me, "You are the one that left the wolf pelt carpet for us!!!"

I said proudly, "Yes, Yes. Great for the markers and great for show, carrying a wolf pelt on my shoulder can keep some enemies away. But I wear dragon scales, that keeps most away and the ones who try to fight... Are usually drunk."

Herbilin asked, "Is that why you don't drink?"

I replied, "There are many reasons, but no. I could beat anyone even when I am drunk."

Then I heard another voice yell, "Yeah Right!"

It was Aela, and then I saw all the generals were here.

I turned to Herbilin and said, "What are they doing there?"

Herbilin said, "I don't know, if I did I would have more food."

Aela said, "We are hear to go to the Area De Van."
