Landor's POV
I stood up and said expecting no reply, "Sorry, but I am going to the Victorians' tonight."
Then I was about to walk out the door when Aela said, "Look at the coward run... Crying to the Victorians."
I took my hand off the doorknob and turned to her, "Says the one hiding in all the armor; it takes real bravery to go in a battle in a cloak."
She replied, "At least I am not scared to show my face. You have to where a hood all the time, because you are too ashamed to show your face."
I snickered and turned to the others, "We have a physiatrist in the house."
Before Aela could open her mouth Arivian said, "Enough, leave the differences in the arena."
I mocked, "Good job Arivian, you delayed Aela's embarrassment."
Aela was about to open her mouth again, but Arivian stopped her.
/////////////10 Minutes later///////////
We were all at the Area de Van, which was a public arena that citizens from everywhere around the world would watch and make bets on who would win. There were weapon dealers, food vendors, potion makers and armor fitters.
While Arivian was signing everyone up, we searched through the shops... Well I didn't, but all the others did. I went to one of my old elf friend, Ligos that I used to hunt with. He was one of the best shots I ever hunted with.
Once we went to Thorald's Bleak and hunted giants, big, hairy, slow and dumb human like creatures. They were 10 feet tall. Their weak spot was their neck, and even then it took many arrows to kill it. Many inexperienced hunters make the wrong decision of shooting it in the head. No, they are thick skulled creatures that will barely be effected by a hit to the head. The giants also have pretty good loot stashed in their camps from all the dead hunters that tried to kill them.
Although the loot is worth tons, the most valuable part of their body is their bones. Their bones are one of the best building materials for how sturdy the bones are. A whole skeleton is worth at least 2,500 gold, which is about as much as 2 horses and a half. Ligos and I killed 12 Giants that day, splitting up the loot 50 - 50. Probably the most money made in a while.
Well Ligos and I made a deal while the generals were buying equipment. I were to fight with just a wooden sword and a rock so everyone would bet for my opponent and Ligos will bet for me. We will split the money, the usual ratio 50 - 50, if I win. He will be placing in 1000 gold.
The way betting works in this arena is that the better bets X amount of money and if he or she wins, the arena has to pay double the X. Also the betters that lost have to pay X amount of money to the person. To qualify to get to bet, people must pay 200 gold and if they lose they have to give the rest of the money that they bet if the winner bet is less than the loser's.
After me and Ligos finished discussing the terms like where we will meet after the battle, we bowed to each, the common elf agreement sign. I then went to a Public Forge and I built the wooden sword, which the blacksmith laughed at, and found a rock on the ground. I also bought some rope, one of the most important weapon in a battle. I then met up with all the generals, concealing my "weapons", and found out when we would be fighting.
I wasn't fighting for a while because Arivian made me wait so he can explain the rules to me- What? What kind a fight has rules!?!? Typical Herbilin.... I got to teach him something sooner or later.
Well I sat down, in the contesters spot and waiting for Arivian. I looked around and saw thousands of people seated at the arena. Most of Skandorian was here, because when generals fight; they know something is going to happen. Arivian, Gandor and Aela came over while I was looking for elves in the stands- only Ligos. Arivian and Aela both sat next to me on eitherside and turned to me.
Arivian started, "So, since rules will be the major area you will struggle in-"
Then Aela jumped in and said, "No, fighting will be his major area of struggle."
Arivian and I ignored that comment, like real men, and Arivian continued, "So here are the rules:
No Bows
No Shields
No Potions"
I replied completely disappointed, "So no fun?"
Aela agreed with- Hey! Look at that!- and said, "Yeah, the shield rule is so lame, but I can see why Herbilin would put no bows and potions."
Never-mind, I didn't agree with her, "The shield counters the bow and the potions make battle interesting."
Arivian then said trying to prevent the arguement between me and Aela, "So Landor if you need a new weapon now; take this chance to go to the shops."
I put my hands behind my head and settled down saying, "I'm good."
//////////////4 Battles Later/////////////
I watched many battles and the results were
Clorida vs Herbilin- Clorida wins.
Gandor vs Arivian- Arivian wins
Clorida vs Arivian- Arivian wins
Aela vs Arivian- Aela wins
I was just watching everyone congratulate Aela when a guard tapped me on the shoulder. He showed me to my station to be entered in the Arena.
I heard the announcer yell, "Aela VS Landor!!!"
The gates opening signaling me to walk into the Arena.
