Landor's POV
We were off to Stelant. Our wagon raced across the road ignoring every passerby. We hitched our wagon and covered the armor and weapons with a huge clothe. We walked to an inn. And what did I find on the inn's door?
A sign that stated:
Horse Race
All show up at Nordith with you fastest horse.
Bets can be made and a huge prize for the winner.
NO ELVES ALLOWED
So it was all going perfectly to plan... Of course.
I opened the door to The Drunken Thieve's Inn and heard the heavy laughs of the dwarves, the angry curses of the elves and the ranting of drunk humans. The elvish drinking music played at the far end of the inn.
There was a lot of potential... Elves carried War Bows instead of hunting, dwarves carried heavy axes and the humans had there swords and shields.
The Inn Keeper looked at us and said, "Ah, more elves. Would you like a room with the view of the forest? It is an elvish favorite!"
I shook my head and said just, "No, just here for the bar."
The Inn Keeper nodded his head and we walked to the bar. I whispered to both of them, "Ligos, you convince some of the elves to join the voyage, Sadia, you convince some of the humans and I got the dwarves."
Ligos snickered knowing the hostility between the common dwarf and the common elf, "Good luck."
I went over to the table of dwarves, they were drinking away, boasting about a metal they found in the earth. I sat down in an open seat and all the dwarves turned to me and growled.
Then one said, "What is a pointy-eared, forest-dwelling rat want?"
I said unprovoked, "I am not here to argue, I am here to offer a job."
Another dwarf piped in, "We won't be taking orders from a tree's husband."
Calmy I said, "I am going to a place where treasures are countless and the coins are like a river of gold flowing through a cave of marble. The stories will be passed down from every generation. The tales of this place will be unbelievable even for the ones that are inside the place. Stomaches will be filled and pockets will be overflowing. This cave will be like no other you have mined. Gold veins will flow through the mountain like the beards on your very faces. The profit will be divided evenly. But one share will be too much to carry with what this cave holds. It will be an adventure that will never be forgotten.
And now I ask you... Who will join me?"
For a few seconds all dwarves stayed silent, motionless. Then one raised his hand, then two more then another and another. Five dwarves agreed to come and we went outside. I waited for the Ligos and Sadia. Ligos came out with 6 elves and Sadia came out with 10 men.
I unhitched the wagon and told everyone to meet at the docks at seven sharp. So they had two hours to do whatever they want. I decided do what all Stelant citizens do, get stolen from.
I bought a cloak with big pockets and went to the forest. I searched for a tree with a very dark bark, and I cut into it. I let the sap leek into my pockets not letting any hit my hands. The sap was the stickiest sap in all the trees. If someone doesn't wash his or hers hands after two minutes of touching the sap, he or she will be washing them for weeks trying to get it off.
I walked through town and one man bumped into me which was his way of pick pocketing. After a few seconds, I heard swearing, a lot of swearing. Then I felt a hand in my other pocket and then saw the elf running with the sap in his hand. He knew what it was, he's an elf, a thief but still an elf.
After about an hour and half, I had my fun. I took of the cloak and went to the wagon. I whistled the signal whistle. Ligos and Sadia left a restaurant at the same time and came to me. I drove the wagon to the entrance of the docks, while Ligos and I talked about what we did and Sadia sat in the back wagon where I was. I parked near the entrance and waited for everyone.
The 6 elves came first with their light armor and their best bows. The 10 men came with a variety weapons, spears, axes, swords and maces. The dwarves came late bringing their heavy battle axes with them.
I then showed them the weapons we got from Nordith. They were all impressed grabbing armor and weapons. The only ones that did not grab anything were the elves. Ligos and I handed them bows.
They denied them, but then I said, "Sea is a different battlefield than land, you must take the weapons."
That finally ended the argument. When I turned back to the wagon only a few weapons were left. They were suited up to be soldiers not just thieves now.
I then told everyone my plan. The elves went with Ligos with the bows I gave them. Sadia and I got the dwarves and men together to wait for the signal.
I watched the ship we were going to try to get, an ale carrier. Lavanta is a huge company that makes ale. They have two ships for each load they carry to a dock, one called Gasby and the other Latin. I wanted Gasby.
I whistled to signal Ligos to start and in a blink of an eye flaming arrows hit the ship, Latin. Latin was lit on fire and the crew ran or jumped off the ship. A crew member ran to the ship, Gasby. He told the crew of Gasby to bring buckets and extinguish the fire. The whole crew left with buckets. They started fill the buckets with water and tried to stop the fire.
I whistled to tell Ligos to get on Gasby as soon as he can. Sadia and I snuck into the ship while the crew was trying to extinguish the fire on the other boat. The men and dwarves followed us on the boat.
While Sadia was waiting for Ligos to get on the boat, I walked to captain's office and opened the door. The captain was there sitting, as suspected, because captains never leave his or hers ship. Without hesitation I threw a knife at his chest and left the office.
Ligos was there with his elves and we got into our positions. Some elves and men knew how get the boat ready to sail. I cut the rope connecting us from the dock and the dwarves lifted the anchor up.
We were out of the port and watched as the crew started swearing at us and throwing rocks hoping to hurt us. Then there was an explosion from Latin. The fire met high alcoholic ale. The docks were destroyed and all the crew was killed. Two more ships were damaged not including Latin. Everyone cheered on our boat, a crew, a Stelant crew, has already adapted to death.
