''When I was eight, my daddy bought me my first guitar.'' Beth sits between his legs, her head resting on his chest as she smiled. ''Were ya any good?.'' Daryl asked as he fiddles with his knife. Beth shifted just enough to make bare eye contact with him. ''I was awful.'' She laid her head back down on his chest and felt him laugh a little. ''Did you ever play any instruments growin' up?.'' She asked as she stared into the flames of the fire. It was silent, the only sound present was the crackling of the wood as it burned away and daryl's knife as he stabbed it into the dirt. ''Nah.. I didn' have much of a childhood..'' Beth frowned. ''Your lucky, ya know.'' Daryl said and beth turned to face him. ''Why's that?.'' He froze up for a moment as they made eye contact before shaking his head and glancing at the knife. Memories of his father beating him up flashed through his mind and he looked back up at her. Beth was silent. She stared at him with sympathetic eyes and he sighed. ''It's gettin' late, you should get some rest.'' He said as he graced her shoulder with his thumb. ''What 'bout you?.'' She asked. 'I'll be there soon. Go on.'' He watched as she stood up and climbed into the tent.

The warmth of her body still lingered against his as he stared into the fire. He wonders how long this will last. Not the broken world.. No. He wondered only how much longer he'd have to lay beside her at night. To spend his afternoons and evenings in comfortable silence, only making small talk when needed. Daryl dug his knife into the ground and bowed his head. He longed for nothing but her. He longed for the moment when he'd slide his skin over her's. Maybe she'll pretend she didn't notice as he laced their fingers together. Maybe it will come as natural as breathing. And maybe, just maybe she'll kiss his hand just like she did when she stopped him from falling apart. Oh how so he longed for that moment. He sighed as he stood up and pushed dirt into the fire. He watched as the dirt engulfed the flames until they were no more. Daryl climbed into the tent and laid down beside beth. Her long lashes graced the skin under her eyes as she slept quietly. He smiled softly before laying down at his back and stared at the ceiling of the tent.

''You okay?.'' He jumped a little as he glanced over at beth who was propped on her elbows. ''Mhm.'' He grunted. Beth moved one of his arms and cuddled closely to him, laying her head onto his chest. Daryl was frozen for a moment before moving his arm so he could wrap it around her tiny waist. ''What's botherin' you Daryl?.'' She asked and he shook his head. ''Nothin..'' Beth looked up at him and frowned. She knew that deep inside something was bothering him, but she wasn't the type to force it out of you. Instead she nodded softly and began humming as she graced daryl's chest with her thumb. When she felt his grip on her go limp she reached up and kissed his cheek softly before cuddling back into his chest. In a matter of minutes, beth found herself in a peaceful slumber.
