living just seems like a distant memory that i don't want anymore.
The first weekend of work for Gaege was simple enough, playing on stage in front of a couple hundred people at a time. He liked it. He did get a little bit uncomfortable when drunk women in their 40's would come up to him and either try and get him to go home with them, or try and get to go home with him. One of the times, the lady's husband walked over and thought Gaege started it but it was a big misunderstanding and now the man, Bobby, is a regular and Gaege always gives him a free drink.
It's Saturday, and Saturdays are always busy. Gaege barely just started but his throat already hurts and he knows he needs to down at least two bottles of water in the next hour if he doesn't want to lose his voice. (me writing this with strep 🥲)
He finished up the song he was doing and then stood up, leaning down to the mic, "Thank you everyone, I'll be back once I'm buzzed and down about three bottles of water." he smiled, setting his guitar on the stand, walking off the stage. He walks over to one of the counters, only to be met by Eddie.
"Mr. Rodriguez, hey." he looked up at him and offered up a smile. Eddie smiled at him and pulled out a stool for Gaege to sit. Gaege blushed a deep red color and sat on the stool, "Thank you sir."
Eddie shook his head, "It's really no problem. But you calling me by my last name and calling me sir will become a problem. I already told you, call me Eddie. I'm your friend." he smiled and took a seat next to him. "So tell me, how do you like it here?" he questioned, taking two water bottles from Abigail, giving them to Gaege.
Abigail leaned over the counter, "I think he likes it alot." she winks at Gaege, laughing.
He flipped her off, "You suck." he mumbled and looked at Eddie, "I do like it alot, though." He agreed with Abi, smiling a bit.
"Called it!" she yelled from the storage closet behind the counter. Eddie just laughed softly and looked over at Gaege,
"I have a proposal." He placed his hand on the counter, "Can you start working Thursdays too? I'll even let you nap in my office for 2 hours a day." he threw in, raising a brow. I mean, who could say no to a 2-hour nap a day? Definitely not Gaege, he didn't even get that much sleep as it is, two more hours will be a dream come true...no pun intended.
Gaege raised his eyebrows in thought and looked over at Eddie with a toothy grin, "I accept the offer. Same time as I work on regular days?" he questioned, taking a sip of his water.
Eddie clenched his teeth, tilting his head to the side, shrugging, "You'll have to come in from eleven to twelve, but the paycheck will be so worth it." he smiled sheepishly.
Gaege widened his eyes and sighed, "Yeah, that's okay, I'll do it." He rubbed his eyes and looked down at his hands. His nail polish was starting to chip, he was still deciding if he wanted to keep them black or paint them yellow. He was very indecisive and couldn't decide on a color. He decided he would ask Eddie.
why am I asking him this. he probably thinks im fucking weird.
"Hey, M-Eddie," He almost said to Mr. Rodriguez but he caught it and corrected himself, "Can I ask you a question? It's a little weird and you don't have to answer me if you don't want-" he spoke but wasn't able to finish as Eddie cut him off.
"Gaege, weird questions are the best questions, c'mon, hit me." Eddie sat up straight, adjusting himself on the stool.
Gaege cleared his throat and nodded, "Okay, so I want to paint my nails again since the paints chipping, but I don't know if I want to keep them black or paint them yellow. Can I get your opinion?" he questioned. He still didn't understand why he would be asking Eddie about this of all people but he was and it was already out there, no taking it back now. But in all honesty, this conversation wasn't weird at all. The only reason that Gaege found it weird was because they barely knew each other and Eddie is his boss.
Eddie nodded in thought and put his hand out, "May I see your hand please, señor?"
Oh fuck.
Eddie speaking spanish is enough to make Gaege nut in his pants like a young schoolboy right then and there.
Gaege simply nodded and stuck his hand out to the older, his eyes widening whenever Eddie grabbed his hand.
There they were, the butterflies that he felt when he had first seen Eddie. He couldn't help it. He had this attraction towards the other since he met him and he didn't know why, he knew it was wrong since they were just purely business partners. In all honesty, he thought that he should just accept the fact that Eddie probably had a nice, beautiful wife, a big house, and a lovely family. He frowned at the thought but got pulled out of his little world when he heard the mexican speak.
"I think that yellow would look good on you." Eddie squeezed Gaege's hand a little and then let it go, "Yeah, definitely yellow. It'll bring out your skin tone. Just trust me. Don't ask me why I know that. Yellow is my favorite color, too." He laughed softly and stretched his neck to the side, a loud pop following the movement, making Gaege cringe to himself internally.
"Really? Thank you. That helps a lot actually." he smiled and drank the rest of his water, letting the cool liquid run down his throat, coating the insides of his body. His throat already felt better.
He stood up and looked at the stage, the thought of getting drunk not even popping into his head. Talking to Eddie really helped him.
"I should really get back to entering my wonderful fans." he joked, laughing, a wide grin on his face.
Eddie smiled at him, "Hey, sing a song for me." he said in a joking tone.
Gaege just smiled, "Oh yeah, I definitely will." he playfully winked and started walking off to the stage.
The thought of staying alive really didn't disgust him that much anymore.
