"just one look at you"

jimmy's kiss is salty with sweat and bubbled from the ramune we drink like water. i hold his face in bed: soft hairy cheeks and a lazy smile. it's hot even with the windows open; we lounge naked beside one another, over the covers.

i know jimmy well in slip and slope. i know the sound of his breath catching in a sigh of pleasure. i know the loose, loose unwinding as i shed him of clothing. i know how he moves in a mirror.

did i ever tell you, robert, how jimmy makes me feel? a sticky feeling, like bubble gum between my ribs. i'm puddled for him. i'm puddled for you.

"where is he?" i turn to jimmy and ask about you.

his green eyes gloss me. he turns me over like batter, sets me on my stomach as he crawls over top. "signing autographs, maybe. . ." jimmy's gentle breath: "stay with me."

but i'm trapped by him. how could i leave? his chest is woolly on my shoulder blades. his heart thumps into my spine.

"i will. i'm just . . . greedy," i tell him.

"i know," he whispers. his voice floats on a gust of warm wind that's entered the room. i let myself slip away underneath him. utterly hot and flushed, jimmy and i take our first nap of the day.

there's pressure on the bed, that's what wakes me up, and i find you sitting with your eyes on me.

"what's this?" you ask. jimmy's weight has left me. instead, his hand lingers near my ear, cast aside in a sprawl.

"i missed you. i'm drained from the heat."

"and pagey?"

"the same . . . will you join us? we'll sleep away the day together."

a big smile spreads over your face at my suggestion.

"and what will peter think?"

"mr. grant has nothing to worry about."

you rub my forehead with your thumb and laugh. you're fatigued too: your body draws up as you undress and winds down again when you slip into the bed. your hot skin sticks to mine.

"what did he have you doing?" i ask.

"nothing. i was out on my own taking photographs."

"of people?"

"of everything. the cherry blossoms are in bloom this time of year. we should go out and see them. after we sleep the day away, of course."

i hum and nod. i'm swaddled in my contentment: you on one side and jimmy on the other.

"rob?"

"hmm?"

"today was a good day."

you turn on your side to face me, bringing me towards your chest, curling me up to fit right against you. behind us, jimmy rolls over and moans.

"a very good day," you agree.
