As we were leaving the stone table room, I walked over to Edmund to figure out a time when he could teach me how to properly handle my sword."Hey Ed! When do you think you could teach me a bit about sword fighting? I don't want to intrude on your schedule, but Peter did say that you'd teach me remember?" I said with a chuckle, trying to avoid any awkwardness that could arise.
"Oh yeah, I remember that." He said rolling his eyes with a smile.
"We can actually go now, there is still a few hours of daylight left, unless you have something else to do. I know you're probably helping Susan out."
"She doesn't have anything for me today so right now is fine with me." I said as I shrugged my shoulders.
We started walking towards the main entrance that led out to the grassy field where the troops had set up outdoor training areas.
———
"So, always keep your sword up and ready, it will be easier to be on the defense when your opponent tries to strike." He said lifting up his wooden sword he insisted we use.
"What if they go for my legs?"
He let out a chuckle.
"Here, try your hardest to hit me with your sword, and watch how I play defense. I won't strike at you hard, so just focus on what I do."
We played out this method for a while, and it was honestly a good strategy because I could actually see how Edmund fluidly moved his sword and dodged my attempts to poke him with my wooden stick of a sword.
"You're getting the hang of this!"
"You don't have to be nice to me Ed." I said with a laugh.
"No I mean it, you're a very quick learner."
"Well I don't want to be stabbed by a telmaraine." I said while dropping my sword, indicating that I was ready for a break.
"That would be most unfortunate." Prince Caspian said as he gallantly walked over to us.
"Speaking of telmaraines." Edmund muttered.
"Lady May, may I speak to you in private?" Prince Caspian asked while glancing at Edmund.
"We are a bit busy here Caspian." Edmund stated.
Caspian looked to me.
I hesitated. I could sense the tension arising between the two of them and I didn't understand why, maybe it was a guy thing.
"Sure, just for a moment. I'll be back Ed, if you want you can grab us some dinner and we can eat out here, I wont be long."
"Alright." Edmund said with a sad smile.
I wasn't trying to hurt his feelings, but I didn't want to be rude to Caspian either.
Caspian and I started walking the opposite way of Edmund to the far side of the How. He waited until he could see that Edmund was far enough away to hear us before he started speaking.
"So, I heard from Queen Susan that you are helping with the archers?"
"You sure talk about me a lot with the Pevensies don't you?" I asked sarcastically.
"Is that a bad thing?"
"Not necessarily."
"Well, I have something I want to ask you."
"And that is?"
"We are both new to the Narnian countryside. I have never gone past the river to where Aslans How is up until this past week. Would you like to go riding with me tomorrow? That is, when Susan can spare you. I figure it would be a good thing to learn of our surroundings and go on a little adventure."
