The first part of the day seemed to flow by briskly without a hiccup. All the troops were able to make proper arrows for themselves, and they were able to make a good dozen. Now that I turned them over to Susan, she would be making sure that all of them are making more arrows exactly like the ones they made earlier. I made as many as I was comfortable having, and I was planning on making more later on while the other archers are target practicing.
And now it's time to go find Caspian.
Up until now I was actually excited to go riding with him, but now that I'm walking to the Stone Table room, I was getting nervous.
I tried to focus on the archers and what we wanted to accomplish tomorrow. But I still felt the nervousness in my stomach.
As I walked into the Stone Table room, I saw Caspian, Edmund and Peter gathered over the Table, looking at different sticks and various rocks. I assumed it was either a map or a battle plan, or both.
"Hello Ed, Peter, Caspian." I said with a small bow.
"Go ahead Caspian, Edmund and I are going to talk about something."
He nodded and headed over to me.
"Lets get the horses ready shall we?"
———
The ride was beautiful. Caspian decided that we would bring some food and have dinner, then head back before sunset. Somehow I knew that this trip wasn't meant to be an exploration, but some decent quality time together, and I wasn't necessarily upset that Caspian didn't allude to it in the beginning, because I didn't mind.
We decided to sit down and eat in a clearing surrounded by birch trees. We talked about his life in the castle and about all the things he wanted to change. He felt responsible for the Narnian genocide, even though he had nothing to do with it. He wanted to make sure that when we defeat Miraz that he will find a way to integrate his people with the Narnians, and he was sure that his people will be accepting of them.
"I just want a chance to prove to all of Narnia that not all telmaraines are bad, and that I can be a better king than the ones before me, instead of the cowardly prince that ran away." He said as he stared at the ground.
"Caspian, you aren't a coward. Saving your life is ensuring that Narnians and Telamraines will live together in peace when we win this war. Plus, without you the pevensies and I wouldn't be here. You blew the horn remember?"
He smiled at my remark.
"I have no doubt that you will make a great king." I added as his eyes met mine.
"Its a shame you aren't from here, you'd make a great queen."
"I dont know about that. I would feel trapped by the duty and responsibility. But if you need an archery general, I'm your girl."
Caspian laughed.
He had a strong and deep laugh that had a hint of his accent. He was truly a fine young man.
"Well then I'm out of luck if I ever wanted you to be my queen." He joked.
I rolled my eyes and chuckled.
We continued to talk about the castle and how Peter wanted a map of it. He was hoping that Peter wouldn't try to invade the castle, because it would end in many Narnian deaths even if we were to succeed.
The feelings I had towards Caspian were more of a dear friend, then a romantic lover. However, there was definitely a mix of both. It was different than the feelings I felt towards Edmund. Ed made me feel young and secure in a new place. But Caspian made me feel mature and like I was needed for something bigger.
I had a difficult time talking with Caspian without wanting to stay in Narnia with him forever. Not like I wanted to be married or in a romantic relationship, but he was proving himself to be a beloved companion, like he said he would be when we met.
I had a wonderful time with Caspian. I just hope Edmund isn't in a mood when I get back.
