"He did what?!" Callie asked, shocked at the words that just came out of my blushing face.

"Kissed her, Calliope, kissed her! Oliver Bennett kissed our best friend!" Lydia exclaimed, loud enough for everyone we passed in the halls to hear. "Keep up."

"First, my name isn't Calliope and second, I just need to reaffirm I heard the right words," Callie retorted. "Honestly, it's about time you two started playing tonsil tennis."

"Who says that?" I asked, laughing at how amused my friends were by my sudden love life. "Do you want me to continue the story or-"

"YES!" they both cut me off.

"So, after about ten seconds, he stopped and started apologizing. But," I waited to ensure they were listening by building suspense. "I kissed him back to shut him up."

My best friends, on both sides of me, grabbed my arms and started squealing. Realizing we were walking on the wrong side of the hallway and seeing a mob of people coming our way to leave the campus for the day, I steered the three of us back to the right.

"Joy Morrison, I am proud. Proud and shocked, but mostly proud," Callie grinned. "Now that you both have boyfriends, you better not ditch me."

"Woah, woah, woah, I interrupted. "Oliver is not my boyfriend. We haven't even been on a date yet." I said.

"Oh stop it Joy, you're into him and he's in deep. You two are dating," Lydia said, turning all of us toward the library.

"Yes, but dating and him being my boyfriend aren't the same," I said. "I've never had a boyfriend. Gosh, I hadn't even kissed a guy prior to yesterday."

"Whatever you say," Lydia said, pausing before continuing. "Hey Callie, I'm thinking green for the bridesmaids dresses. What do you think?"

"Oh, 100%. And in the fall time?" Callie responded, giggling as I swatted both of them.

"Quit it you two," We all lowered the volume of our laughs as we entered the library.

Every Wednesday, I stay after school for a few hours editing my writing for the school newspaper. Our deadlines are the following day, so I check over my fellow writers' pieces and help with the outline.

"Whatever, Joy," Callie whispered. "But you should give the guy a chance."

"And you can do it right now!" Lydia said, tapping my arm and causing me to look up.

There he was. Oliver Bennett sitting at one of the computers, staring at his feet. He was waiting for someone, it was evident. It was me. He was waiting for me!

"Oliver, good to see you, bud," Callie said, giving him a nudge. "What are you doing here?"

"What she means is that we were just leaving," Lydia said before Oliver could get a word out. "C'mon Cal, Brayden's waiting for us. Bye Oliver. Joy."

Callie and Lydia walked away, whispering and giggling, making Oliver and I both chuckle and blush.

"So, Bennett, what are you doing here?" I ask, smirking.

"Well, you told me you come here on Wednesdays and I wanted to talk"

He remembered, I thought.

"About what?" He looked nervous as I asked, which was a new one for Oliver Bennett.

He stood up, reminding me of his height, and grabbed my hand. He pulled me toward the back of the library, by the nonfiction section. We were by the biography section when we stopped, and before I got the chance to question what was happening, he kissed me.

It was smooth and passionate, like we hadn't kissed in months and this was a craving. I knew I wanted it, but I didn't know he did as well. Until now. He softly smiled as I pulled away.

"You're gonna kill me, Morrison."

"Right back at ya, Bennett," I giggled. "But, I thought you wanted to ask me something."

"Ah, yes. The kiss was supposed to come after, but clearly, things got a bit out of order."

He was adorable when he blushed.

"I think we need a proper something. A next step, if you will," He started.

"Ah, would food be involved?" I asked, playing along.

"Food could be involved. And other things, surprises."

"I like surprises."

"I'm glad you do. How about tomorrow night? After our shift?"

"Sounds perfect."

"Alright, it's a date."

"That it is."

He smiled and kissed my forehead before heading out to leave. I almost liked that more than the real kissing.

God that boy was gonna ruin me.
