It didn't take long to walk to Luke's flat, and once inside I admired the comfy-looking place. It reminded me of one of those perfect little apartments that you saw in magazines with minimalist furniture and cool lamps and other stuff like that. A few guitars lined his walls over his bed, and I noticed a picture of Luke and a few friends. Luke looked about sixteen in the picture and was posing with two of his friends, all of them holding guitars in their hands. There was a sudden meowing noise that surprised me, and I looked down to see a shiny sleek black cat rubbing against my leg and purring softly. I bent down and scratched the cats ear softly, smiling as it purred louder.
"It seems Minx has taken a liking to you very quickly." Luke smiled, locking the door, "he usually doesn't like people, and decides to stay in the shadows. He's never been so eager to see someone like this." Luke scratched his head, ruffling his blond hair a bit to make it look more natural.
"How long have you had him?" I asked Luke, petting Minx, the cats green eyes glowed brightly as he looked up at me.
"Actually Minx isn't my cat, he lives in the alleyways around these parts of the city, but he likes to swing by through the window from time to time. I feed him and give him some food, so he comes pretty often." Luke put his guitar down on his bed, and took his socks off, throwing them into a hamper full of other clothes.
I sighed, sitting down on the couch, Minx jumping up and curling into a ball next to me. I looked out of the corner of my eye as I watched Luke changing into a different t-shirt. His back muscles bulged as he stretched a tight white shirt over his head, and I noticed his arm veins popping out as he reached for his guitar. I looked away quickly, a small blush creeping its way onto my face. Why was I blushing? I didn't like Luke? He was just a little attractive that's all.
"Mikey, you ready to play?" Luke smiled as he handed me one of his guitars from off the wall.
"Y-Yeah sure." I took the guitar, and waited for him to start strumming his before I followed his actions. He made me do a few scales before we started playing actual songs. After we finished, I looked over at the picture of teenage Luke.
"Are those two still your friends?" I blurted out, "sorry that was a bit rude and really nosy of me, forget I asked."
"No it's okay," Luke said calmly, Minx moved over and curled up in his lap as Luke stroked the cat softly. "They were my two best friends in high school. We started a band, but then we just stopped after graduation. I'm the only one who really stuck with music. Calum the one on the left went into business and economics and is some rich company owner now. And Ashton on the right became a marine biologist. We try to keep in contact but it's hard." He sighed, Minx jumped out of his lap, meowing loudly before running out the window and down the fire escape.
"Wow, that cat has some manners, it can even say goodbye." I chuckled.
"Yeah, it's nice having him. He keeps me company." Luke smiled, putting his feet up on the coffee table in front of the couch.
I immediately felt extremely bad for Luke. He was living all alone, and he didn't have much free time to hang out with his friends. His life was pretty rough right now. Maybe I could help out, or at least make him feel better. I didn't want Luke to be lonely, that just made me sad.
"Hey uh, Luke, do you uh mind, if I c-could come over t-tomorrow maybe? Not for like a lesson, b-but maybe we could t-talk more." I shrugged slightly, praying that he didn't catch my obvious stutter.
"Really? You want to hang out with me?"
Honestly who wouldn't, "Y-Yeah."
"Sounds good to me, I'll see you tomorrow then Mikey." He waved goodbye as I got up and went to the door.
"See ya, Lukey." I chimed. My stomach was swirling and twirling.
What was I getting myself into?
