"Who are you?" Reiko questioned the strange boy. "Kurapika. You only need to know my first name for now. But, I could ask you the same question." He replied in a professional manner as he turned to face her. "Reiko. But you can call me Rei," she stopped and admired his features for a few seconds, "How did I get here?" "You're dreaming. Well, we're both dreaming. But since we're soulmates, we must be close enough to each other that our consciouses can connect. I assume you've noticed the string by now?" "Yeah... I have."

She approached him and leaned onto the railing next to him. He continued to stare at the girl. She was beautiful. The stars reflected off of her sharp pink eyes, the soft blush that dusted across her cheeks, even her long black hair that slightly blew in the breeze. But something was off to Kurapika. Her eyes. They were completely dull, showing almost no emotion at all. They were a bit puffy as well, indicating that she had been crying recently. He became worried. If this was the girl he was destined to be with, destined to love, he wanted no one to hurt her. He wanted her to live a happy life. A life better than his. He believed that his chance of having an enjoyable life was gone. Swept away with the wind that night his clan was brutally slaughtered. But maybe he could help her live the best life possible.

Little did Kurapika know that he and Reiko had very much in common. Rei didn't know what she was going to do in her future, but one thing she knew was certain. She would get revenge. She would kill Chrollo Lucilfer. For taking her from her family, for making her empty, for throwing away her childhood, and for everyone he had ever killed. For any family he had ever destroyed.

What did Kurapika want? Revenge. Kurapika also wanted revenge on the phantom troupe. For murdering his clan, for leaving him with no one, for taking their eyes, for ruining his life. Not only did Kurapika want to kill Chrollo, but the rest of the troupe too. For helping in this horrible act that destroyed him.

Their goals were nearly identical.
