(black and white ponyboy hits dif)

you hate saturday night shifts at the dingo.

they include drunk, obnoxious soc boys that think they are so much better than you, and try to get inside your pants despite the age gap.
soc girls that gossip and make fun of your uniform;
and loud-mouth greaser boys and girls.

you had your y/h/c hair pinned back, away from your eyes and you were wearing the required, red and white uniform with a white apron tied around your waist.

you were handing over the last drink to a group of middle-class teenagers when you heard the door open and a rowdy group of six or seven teenagers entered. they sat down in a booth situated in the corner of the diner.

you made eye contact with a brunette boy with streaks of blonde dye in his hair. he had green-greyish eyes and you couldn't help but think he was cute. you noticed the top of his ears turn pink before he turned around after a boy with a movie-star smile called his name.

you turned around and went back towards the counter with a light blush grazing your cheeks.
you started cleaning the countertop, when your boss came up to you.

"y/n, can you please serve the group over there? kacey went to the toilet, so she can't," your boss told you, whilst pointing to the group that arrived a few minutes ago. you nodded and started walking towards the table, whilst getting your small notepad and pen out of your waist pocket.

when the boys noticed your arrival, they all quietened down, and you swear, out of the corner of your eye, you could see a boy with a mickey mouse top nudge the boy you locked eyes with earlier.
"hi, what can i get for you guys today?" you asked the group, smiling lightly.
they all gave you their orders and you walked away, with one last look at the boy with greyish eyes.

when you were out of earshot, the boys started talking.

"does dear ole' ponyboy have a little crush on the pretty waitress (or waiter)," two-bit teased pony. "cut it out two" pony muttered, rolling his eyes.
"if you don't ask her out, i will," dallas said whilst turning around looking at you up and down. "aren't they a bit too young for you dal?" johnny asked the older boy, to which dallas only responded with a shrug and a light smirk.

you came back with your drinks and handed them to the boys. "your food will be ready shortly," you concluded before walking away.

"if you don't like them why are you making googly eye them then," steve said to ponyboy. "i'm not making googly eyes at them," ponyboy tried to defend himself. "yes you were," darry and sodapop chimed in at the same time. "no i'm not."
"yes you are."
"no i'm not."
"yes you are."

they paused what they were saying, when a different waiter came with their food, however as soon as the waiter left they continued.

it went on like that for a few more minutes, until dallas had enough of it. "that's it, if you're not gonna tell her kid, i will." ponyboy's eyes widened, but before he could stop dallas from leaving the table, dallas had gotten up and was already making his way towards you.

you turned around when you could feel a presence next to you.
"hey doll," dal greeted you, however before you could say anything back he continued, "you see that boy over there?" he said whilst pointing towards the boy you locked eyes with earlier. you nodded so he continued, "well he likes you, ya dig?" he asked.
you opened your mouth to say something but closed it again, your facial expression showed confusion, you took another look at the table and you noticed four boys laughing, one boy smiling lightly and the last boy whose face was red.
you turned back around with you eyebrows furrowed, dallas picking up on your confusion, opened his mouth to explain but was cut off by the boy with red still painting his face.

"hey dal, i've got it from here," he spoke sheepishly. dally nodded with a smirk on his face and left, not without winking at both of them.

"um i'm sorry, for whatever he said." the boy told you. "it's alright.." you said trailing off after realising you don't know his name. "ponyboy," the guy, ponyboy responded. "well, it's alright ponyboy," you smiled lightly, before turning around to continue cleaning the countertop.

ponyboy, not knowing what to do, turned around ready to walk back to the table, when two-bit came out of nowhere and pushed ponyboy back towards you.
ponyboy started shaking his head at two, to which two-bit would respond with nods. the rest of the gang watched amused whilst you had no idea of what was happening behind you.

ponyboy let out an annoyed sigh and tapped you on the shoulder.

you turned around and found yourself face to face with the boy from earlier, which you remember his name to be ponyboy.

"oh hello ponyboy" you answered, "do you need anything?" you asked.
"no i-i- mean yes- no- um" he trailed off, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly. you lightly laughed whilst he tried to think of what to say.

he cleared out his throat before starting, "um i-i think you're really pretty and i was wondering if you would um want to hang out sometime?" ponyboy asked nervously whilst a light blush was covering his cheeks.
you smiled lightly at his nervousness and nodded your head, "sure."

from then on ponyboy would come visit most saturday nights at the dingo, when you're working.

it's safe to say, that you look forward to saturday night shifts now.
