renjun typically didn't call himself a night owl. but he found himself up most nights, restless to the point that he couldn't even lay in bed. he only noticed this routine starting when he started talking to hyuck again. he sighed.

his phone read back to him the time, 1:37AM. another time sleeping past 1AM. it never seemed like renjun could fall asleep any earlier.

in his living room, he sat on the L-shaped portion of his sofa and looked out at the view of the late-night traffic. he hasn't switched on any lights, save for the small kitchen light above the sink. he wondered how cities could look like that, with its dark (almost black) blues and the haunting yellows and reds of car lights speeding down highways. he'd seen this scene many times before in those movies and sentimental clips, but never before in real life. he chuckled to himself and sipped his hot chocolate.

then he stared down his cup. "lee donghyuck, what are you doing to me..." he muttered as he brought the yellow ceramic to his lips and sipped the warm chocolate. the phone in his hand felt heavy, as if the unsent messages in his notes app held physical weight. as he flipped it over, his lock screen lit up and revealed the artwork he had sketched one night in a slightly dazed mood. it was a single sunflower stalk in a pot, any colouring (if you could call it that) was messily sketched in. renjun involuntarily cracked a smile at the image. then, he looked out the window again and his phone shut off.

he could never help it, huh?

24/7, his mind was always on donghyuck. from the moment he woke to the moment he crawled back into bed at ungodly hours, donghyuck was on his mind. donghyuck was just effortlessly everywhere.

renjun would switch his alarm off in the morning and his hand drawn sunflower wallpaper would greet him.

donghyuck.

he'd unlock his phone and see that he fell asleep texting donghyuck at hours neither of them should be awake. he'd go to the kitchen to make his coffee but then he'd remember he hated coffee and make his way to his favourite cafe: the one donghyuck works at.

on his way, he'd be thinking if donghyuck was working at the time and by then, he'd have reached the café. he'd order and yuqi-jie would always be there to take his mind off for a second but donghyuck would manage to come back because she had briefly updated him.

okay, that one was entirely his own fault.

...

renjun's mind raced. his heartbeat increased. his chocolate was finished, a motorbike sped up on the highway.

then he realised he had reached the conclusion of his movie.
