08. Maybe One Day

donghyuck's smile the other night was all the fuel renjun ran on the whole week, a new energy springing from him. he didn't know if donghyuck knew he'd seen it, but renjun thought seeing it was enough- whether donghyuck knew or not.

the smile powered renjun to stride confidently into his favourite café and order his favourite drink, yuqi already on it the moment she locked eyes with him as he entered. she slid it over the counter and got jisung to work on the next few orders. this jisung had a new vibe radiating off him and he was so confident in his word and actions. yuqi commented on it as she went over to talk to renjun over the collection counter.

"ah, this jisung. he's gotten so good at making drinks and preparing orders quickly. this boy is a god send." she giggled. renjun chuckled too, sipping his tea. "mm!~" he exclaimed, "someone's gotten better at making this?" yuqi laughed, "maybe you're just not used to it anymore." and that reminded renjun of his purpose there in the first place.

"where's donghyuck?" yuqi jumped up at the question, "ah! he's in the back. he's on break. want me to call him?" with renjun's nod, yuqi pattered her way into the back and out emerged donghyuck, looking as gorgeous as the first time renjun had visited his now-favourite cafe joint.

renjun felt like he had fallen in love all over again.

"hey, heard you were on break. didnt even know that but came to visit anyway." renjun said as they sat near the counter. donghyuck smiled. renjun could see tired eyes and sensed lethargy radiating from donghyuck. "hey, are you okay? you seem very tired. is work stressing you?"

donghyuck's attitude visibly changed, "huh? oh! no no no, i'm fine. i'm really fine. thanks for worrying but i'm okay." no matter how hard donghyuck tried to rid his body of the signs of tiredness, renjun could tell.

"is something wrong hyuck?"

something in donghyuck burned. his throat suddenly tightened and his fingers tingled. when he met eyes contact with a clearly worried renjun, he felt his mouth go dry. pieces of words fell out and donghyuck couldn't seem to control what came out-

"i'm just really really in love with you-"

as renjun spaced out on his sofa, the only thing replaying in his head was what donghyuck had blurted out earlier. after that it was all a blur but renjun remembered donghyuck mumbling about how he had to clock back in and he just left. left renjun sitting there, staring into empty space like a fool.

something about hearing it pour from the boy's own lips made renjun heat up from head to toe and no way in hell was he ever going to forget it. his tea had long been diluted by the slowly melting ice, yet he still drank the slightly flavoured ice water in his plastic cup.

both his tongue and mind were numb.
