"Hail Lihn," Sophie said yet again, but the same message flashed up, the words seeming to taunt her with their angry red boldness.

"Hail Biana," Sophie tried, but the Imparter refused to cooperate.

Sophie groaned and fell flat on her bed, staring straight up at the ceiling. Normally, she would have told Grady or Edaline, but today, she just didn't feel like it. Everything seemed small and unimportant compared to Keefe and his happenings.

She knew she should get up, go out, and do something, but right now, all she wanted to was lie on her bed and feel sorry for herself. It had been a rough couple of years without Keefe. The conversations between her friends had all sounded too forced and formal, full of awkward silences that only Keefe knew how to break.

Fitz had never really resolved his relationship with Sophie, but he didn't date anyone else either. Lofe had just seemed bland, and tasteless without Keefe.

There wasn't a day that went by without Sophie thinking of Keefe, wondering when he would wake up, if he ever did. She had longed so badly for those ice blue eyes to flutter open, and him to smile his iconic troublemaker smile.

Sophie had thought that over the years she had covered every single possibility and scene of Keefe waking up. She had gone over what she would say, what she would way too many times to count, yet she didn't even grasp the possibility of Keefe's ability being so powerful, so dangerous.

Her script had dwindled and vanished completely as soon as she had heard the news of his awakening. This was so, so different to anything she had imagined. She wished she could go back, to do something different. If she had never grabbed Keefe's hand...

"Sophie," Sandor warned from the doorway, momentarily saving her from the guilt that was seeping in her brain like treacle, slowly drowning her thoughts in dangerous, sticky thoughts.

Sophie looked up at Sandor, who was bathed in a shower of rose red light as the sun set behind him.

"Dinner is ready," was all he said, before escorting her downstairs and watching her slump down at the table, seeming completely unaware of the food set out in front of her, not even noticing that Edaline had made all her favorites. She didn't see Edaline and Grady's worried glances or the quickly dimming room.

Edaline put a hand on Sophie's shoulder.

"Why don't you go to sleep, honey," she said, "things will look better in the morning."

Sophie nodded and got ready for bed, her thought unable to stay away from Keefe. She wondered if he would allow her to transmit to him, or if he would just ignore her attempts.

Just as she made up her mind to transmit to Keefe, a loud boisterous voice filled her mind.

SOPHIE?

She transmitted a tired hey back to Silverny.

SOPHIE OKAY?

Sophie transmitted a yes, but the over protective mama alicorn obviously didn't believe her as she started scanning through Sophie's memories, bringing up the one scene Sophie didn't want to see.

KEEFE! KEEFE! KEEFE!

Sophie pushed the memory away, burying it in a pile of dusty memories she didn't mind.

KEEFE OKAY?

Silverny asked in the quietest, most gentle voice Sophie had ever heard her use, though it was still like someone was shouting down her ear with a megaphone.

Keefe's okay, she transmitted back, but Silverny still didn't sound convinced.

KEEFE COME VISIT?

Sophie tried not to let any emotion show, but the sadness tore out from her chest, and Silverny saw it.

SILVERNY HELP SOPHIE!
SOPHIE NEED HELP!

All at once, happy, warm, fuzzy feeling were being shot at Sophie, and though she tried to push them away, they seemed to come even closer.

They danced around Sophie's head, seeming to give her a hug, pushing away all the bad thoughts and making up their residence there instead.

They settled in and seem to pull a warm blanket over Sophie's head sending her nice, warm images. Nice, happy images. Then, a surprisingly similar memory came into view.  A voice. Her voice.

It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you.

Then a girl came into view. A young girl, no older than 14, with silky blonde hair and eyes just the same as Silverny's. It was the first time Silverny had met her.

Sophie's gasp had echoed off the trees, as she stared deeply into Silverny's eyes.

She watched herself from Silverny's point of view, feeling Silverny's reaction as she said the words that would change Silverny's life forever.

"It's okay, " past Sophie called, "He's a friend."

Friend.  Flashes of Silverny's loneliness came up, and Sophie could feel her longing to have someone, a friend.

Sophie was the first friend that Silverny ever had.

Sophie smiled at that thought, and Silverny started to transmit the usual dream images, making sure Sophie would have a good sleep.

And this time, Sophie did not push them away, but let them overcome her, as she drifted off to the inscrutable world of sleep.
