"Where am I ?" I opened my eyes, slowly adjusting to the glaring light.
My body was aching all over. I looked around, trying to assess my whereabouts only to find myself in an almost empty room, surrounded by walls as white as snow. I attempted to lift myself off the bed but the pain was too excruciating and unbearable. I laid down after a few unsuccessful attempts. I looked down and saw bandages sheathing my legs and chest. Realization soon struck me. I injured myself and now I'm in the hospital.
"Finally, you're awake Ferlicia. How are you feeling?" A doctor along with two nurses followed by my frantic mother entered the room. My mum came up to me. The expression on her face was like she had just been reunited with her long lost daughter.
"Felly! I'm glad that you're alright" my mum then proceeded to gently embrace me being careful as to not inflict any more injuries to my already battered figure.
"My heart almost stopped..." she murmured.
My mum must've been shaken. A fire broke out when she was overseas on her job and I couldn't escape because the gate was locked. My mum brought the keys with her and I just happen to lose mine on that fateful day. She must've thought this whole incident was her fault.
"Mum... about this incident... you're not to blame. I -"
Before I could finish, my mum cut me off.
"How could this not be my fault?! I left you alone and you could've..." she then broke down in tears.
The doctor informed me that I needed to stay hospitalized for at least 2-3 weeks. Soon after, my best friend Venna entered the room, her gaze on my mum, still sobbing.
"Hey, erm ... Jessabelle, I think it is better for Felly to get her rest. It has been tough for her." Venna spoke in a comforting tone. My mum looked up. Venna wrapped her arms around her shoulders and guided her to the couch.
"Felly is fine now. All she needs is plenty of rest so she can go home when her daddy comes to pick her up when she is well enough."
"Yeah mum and I don't blame you for what happened. Where's dad?" I gave Venna the " I owe you one " look and changed the topic but it doesn't seem to affect my mum.
Your dad is in Cali right now with Ryan. They couldn't get the airplane tickets anytime soon since it's the peak hours now. They are very worried about you honey." my mum told me. "Are you okay Felly? Maybe I should stay over with you?" It was obvious that she was fatigued but she was insistent.
"No mum, I'll be fine. Besides, you need to rest. You look worn-out." My mum wasn't going to back down so easily.
"Venna will keep me company. Erm.. we need to catch up on some girls stuff."
My mum raised her eyebrows. " Girls Stuff?"
"She wants to talk about Ryan Herman." Venna jumped in. I was taken aback. Venna grinned at me while my mum's eyes widened in surprise. Oh hell no! My mum will get the wrong idea. She'll think I like him.
"Oh, is that so? You should've told me earlier hon. As long as you use condoms..."
"Oh god! Mum?!" I exclaimed.
Venna burst out laughing. I glared at the both of them but they didn't seem to stop.
"We're childhood friends!" I shrieked.
"So were your dad and I... but seriously, just be careful when you-"
"Go home already!" I was hoping for the embarrassment to end.
Tears welled up in Venna's eyes, she wiped them before they could trickle down her cheeks. My mum began to pack her stuff preparing her departure for home.
"I'm going now baby. If you ever need anything, call me. I'll come rushing."
My mum kissed me on the forehead and shrouded the blankets over my body. Geez, she's a worrywart.
"I love you." she whispered.
"I will mum and I love you too."
Venna and me watched as my mum left the room. Venna then began to talk.
"Seriously though, you don't like him at all? He is the only son of the Herman family and he's rich!" Venna raved while peeling an apple.
He owns a company and works alongside your dad. Your mum admires him too."
"We are not like that." I asserted while gazing out the window, looking at the full moon.
Ryan is just a childhood friend. Our fathers just happen to be business partners. He is good looking and highly extroverted, a total opposite from my personality.
Talking about guys, I suddenly recall bits and pieces of what happened during the incident at the house when the fire broke out. Someone was there. Someone saved me.
"Is he okay? The person who saved me."
Venna stopped peeling the apple and looked at me with a confused expression.
"He came in the house and carried me out to safety." I continued.
"What are you talking about? When firemen came to rescue you, there was no one there with you in the house." Venna retorted.
Just as I was about to ask her more questions, a ringing sound came from inside the drawer. Venna opened it and took out my phone.
"It's yours."
I unlocked my phone and there were 40 over texts. Out of all the messages, only one stood out.
Text: If you don't want Venna to die, do not tell her about me and stay the hell away from Ryan Herman or I'll kill him like that bitch that always disturbed you.
I froze at the text. As if reading my mind, another text came in and as if replying to my question, the text read..
Text: Yes, I'm talking about that bitch Britney Hale.
