Chapter Three: New beginnings

Shelby's POV

Today is going to be interesting and just weird, can't believe just yesterday my mother died and I met my father and family for the first time, now I'm living in a mansion full of butlers and maids and security, far from the two bedroom home that I grew up in and had the best moments with my mom.

I sigh and think back to the Christmas we had after she told me something I won't forget

Flashback (12 years ago)

" wake up mommy it's Christmas" I say as I bounce on my moms bed as she begins to wake up. She turns towards me and smiles at me, " Merry Christmas baby" she says in a tired voice. I smile and run out the room to the living room and see 5 presents and the bright lights on the make shift tree she got from a friend.

"Mommy come on let's open presents" I say as I look at my mom coming out her room in her robe and slippers, she smiles and sits on the floor next to the tree, I sit next to her and grab a present that I made her, she takes it and opens it. It's a spaghetti necklace that I made In school.

She smiles and says " I love it baby, thank you" as she puts it on, she grabs a present for me and hands it to me, I instantly rip it open and see that it's a necklace that's has a picture of my mother and l at my first soccer game and the other side is of us at my talent show were I won. I smile and hug her tightly as she hugs back, we pull away and she smiles, cups my face and says " baby I wanna tell you something important, always keep your family close and always remember that you are special, don't let anyone take that away from you" I smile and kiss her cheek

" thank you mommy" I say smiling and open the rest of my presents, that day I promised to do as she said and never lose sight of myself and family
Flashback over

I sigh sadly as I come back to reality, I lay there and just think about how much I miss her but I know what I have to do, suddenly I hear the door open.

" Ms.Lyon your father wants to see you in his office" says one of the maids, I smile at her as she walks out. I get up and get in the shower then get dressed, I walk downstairs and into my fathers study, he looks up from his desk and smiles.

"You wanted to see me Mr. Lyon" I say standing in the doorway of the study, he closes his notebook and looks at me "you can call me dad Shelby" I shift uncomfortably as he sighs and says " sorry I know it's too soon but please just don't call me Mr. Lyon" I nod and sit down and say " well you needed to see me"

I wanted to talk to you about your future, and I know your still grieving your mother but from what I know about your mother is that she always moved on quick and never let things hold her back not matter what" I look at him with utter shock which soon turns to anger

" are you actually saying that right now, you didn't know her, and if you did you, you clearly didn't care about her enough to stay" I say in an angry tone, the nerve of him to say that. I look up to see luscious looking at me calmly before her leans on his desk.

" Shelby I'm sorry but you gotta under stand that I knew your mother really well, don't forgot that and take the tone out your voice when you talk to me"I scoff and say " looks who's playing daddy now" he stands up like he's finna do something so I do the same, we get in each other face, he really think I'm finna let him say this dumb shit to me when he's the one that left. We stay like that for a few seconds till he smiles evilly, yet he looks proud, almost like i did something that he liked, we doin sit back down and take a breathe to calm down. He exhales and continues with our conversation.
