-Aris' POV-

I was in my third year of high school. I sat on the roof of my school, Blue Bird High. I was supposed to be in English class for fourth period but honestly, I didn't give two shits about school. Well, that's not entirely true. I used to love going to school, Talking with my friends and goofing off at lunch and after classes. We would walk to this small town café named "Emerald Lake Café". I would always sit in the back booth near the window with my three friends Mia, Annie and Erin. I was always a happy bubbly person but I hated girly stuff. Mia and Annie would talk about shopping while I would talk with my guy friend, Erin.

-Flash Back to three years ago (they are 14)-

I was walking out of biology class with Annie when a sudden weight tackled me to the floor.

"ARIS!!!" I opened my eyes to see an overly energetic Mia on top of me.

"Oh hey!" I replied, now getting up off the ground and dusting my pants off from the imaginary dirt.

"Sorry about that, I tried to stop her but she was too fast" Erin panted, now standing beside Annie who seemed to have a slight dust of pink on her cheeks as she looked away.

"It's ok, you get used to it after two years" I reassured him causing everyone to laugh. "Is everyone ready to go?" I asked before they all nodded.

We walked across the street to the Emerald Lake Café across from my school, Emerald Park. We lived in Gem City so the street having the name of a type of gem was quite fitting. Once we got inside, we all made our way over to our favorite booth. I sat between Annie and Erin. As Mia went on and on about a sale at Forever 21, Erin and I started our own conversation.

"Are you planning on joining the football team again this year?" Erin questioned.

"Probably" I responded. I was the only girl on the boys football team since there was no female team. They originally declined my proposal to join the team but once they saw how good I was at the sport, they couldn't refuse. I would Play with my father all the time in our backyard. "What about you?"

"Yup!" Erin said, popping the P in his statement. Erin played as the quarterback while I was the wide receiver. I had always been a fast runner and a good catcher so the position was pretty easy for me. to make things harder on all the jealous boys on the team, I was also great at handling and taking hits thanks to Mia's constant surprise tackles.

We ordered some food and drinks and talked for hours until we were the last customers in the café. We all got up, said our goodbyes and went our separate ways. Today had been a great day. I was skipping on my way home being my happy bubbly self, but little did I know that everything was about to shatter right before my very eyes.

-End of Flash Back-

I was back on the roof top of Blue Bird High watching the sun slowly lower itself onto the horizon. It was now 6:57pm. Man, how long had I been staring out into space for? I didn't want to go to my house but I knew if I didn't, I would get scolded for staying out too late by my aunt Clarise, my current caretaker. She was a kind older woman who seemed to genuinely care for my well being. As much as I hated to admit it, I cared for her just as much. Apart from my gloomy, dull life, aunt C was the one bright thing since the accident.

I was walking passed an alley when I felt a sudden sharp feeling in my head. I knew exactly what this was. I couldn't move, I dropped to the dirty sidewalk, my mind having trouble registering anything besides the blinding white hot pain shooting throughout my body.

-Flash Back to the café night-

I was turning the corner towards my families apartment when I felt a sudden chill run down my spine. I felt a little uneasy but I just brushed it off. I continued my way up the sidewalk before remembering to pay the black cat in the alley near my apartment a visit.

I searched for the cat but I just couldn't find him. My foot seemed to hit something on the ground. I slowly looked towards my feet and to say that I was shocked was the biggest understatement of the century.
