I walked to school that morning in piece, listening to my music through cheap ear buds. My hair was tied back into a high pony tail with a few loose shorter strands framing my facial features. I wore a black hoodie on top of a white tank top and a pair of ripped black jeans to match. However, instead of hiding away in my shell, I left the hood of my sweater down, allowing the sun full access to my pale skin. It was warm outside and the smell of dew surrounded me. The droplets from the rain stained the soil and sparkled like diamonds among the green blades of grass.

I made my way through the school doors and to my first period class, not noticing the many stares from other students as I walked by. I was in the class writing down some notes as people filed into the classroom along with Mr. Platon. The aroma of  fresh dew from the rain lingered on my clothing. I closed my note book as Mark came and sat beside me.

"Whoa, now I understand why everyone was mumbling in the halls" Mark started as I stared at him confused "new look?" I turned my body to him and tilted my head, urging him to clarify what he meant.

"You left your hood down today" he stated while smiling at me.

"Oh, that explains the odd feeling I felt while walking through the halls. I guess I didn't notice" I replied. I always kept my hood up, trying my best to hide from the world but today just felt different, as though something good was gonna happen.

I looked up as a flash of Blue dashed across the room in a panic. I saw Jasper doubled over, panting out apologies to Mr. Platon about being late. Mr. Platon simply waved her off, stating that the lesson had yet to start anyway. My Biology teacher was always a kind man, but we all knew he could be really scary at times, especially when a student was late. No one knew why, but Mr. Platon was always punctual and disapproved of tardiness so it was a shock to see him so calm.

"It's quite alright Jasper, it is only your second day at this school after all." Mr. Platon said "Now lets start the lesson!" I was called up to assist with the experiment for our chemistry lesson. Mr. Platon loved Biology with a passion but he also admired chemistry and how elements reacted to one another, so he would teach us a few things every once in a while.

-Time skip to lunch hour-

I was on my way to the roof for lunch. Third period had been an exhausting math session and I hated every second of it. Thankfully, my next periods were English and Gym. I would be having a work period in English but had finished my homework the day prior. this meant that I would be able to slack off and just jam out  to my music.

I was feeling good today and decided against skipping classes again and we would be playing flag football in gym. I thought about participating in the game and set my goal to annihilate the boys on the opposing team. Most of the girls would play soccer or sit on the bleachers cheering the players on. I realized that I hadn't played football at this school so no one knew how good I was.

As I reached the door to the roof, I found that it had already been opened. I look up to see the silhouette of a girl staring out at the view. I was mesmerized by the beauty that I didn't notice her walk over to me. Jasper waved her hand in front of my face in an attempt to get my attention.

"Hello, anyone still in there?" Jasper questioned, pocking the tip of my nose in the process. Warmth spread across the bridge of my nose and tips of my ears as I realized how close she was to my face. She had to stand on the tips of her toes just to reach my eye level.

"O-Oh yeah s-sorry, I forgot we were having lunch together today hehe" I laughed awkwardly trying to step back and add some distance between our bodies. She simply chuckled and skipped to my usual spot on the roof while unwrapping a box of food. I reluctantly sat beside her, too nervous to say anything. We ate quietly admiring the sun high in the sky for a while before I decided to finally break the silence.

"So... why did you want to have lunch with me exactly?" I questioned.

"O-Oh, um well, I guess I was just curious" Jasper started, sounding unsure of her words as though she wasn't telling the whole truth.

"About what?" I pushed. hoping for a proper answer to my previous question.

"W-Well... I noticed you during my first day of school and I recognized you from that day in the alley. You looked so sad and people seemed to stay away from you but at the same time they stared at you as if you were special. I guess I just wanted to know why" she finished with a barely visible tint of pink on the bridge of her nose.

"Oh... I assume you want to know my story then?" I asked, already knowing what her answer was.

"Well, I can see that you might not be comfortable telling a stranger this kind of thing, but if you're willing to spare a few details, it would be nice" she said in a slightly nervous yet smooth tone. I didn't understand why, but I felt like I could tell her. I knew nothing about her, and yet, I felt as though I've known her for years.

I told her the story of my parents and aunt C. Once I had started, it was like I couldn't stop, the words spewing out of my mouth with no restraint. I had even shared details that not even a single soul had heard about. I was taken by surprise when Jasper reached out, the sleeve of her sweater pulled over the palm of her hand as she dried the tears that flowed down my cheeks. My eyes widened and mouth slightly agape as the words died on my tongue, shocked at the gesture.

Jasper seemed to be shocked by her own actions as well considering the way she pulled her hand back as if touching me had burned her. "I-I'm so sorry, I d-didn't mean to, you were just crying and I felt an urge to help, I wasn't thinking."

I stared at her, the corners of my lips tilted upwards in a small smile "it's ok, I actually kind of liked it." Her head shot up, her golden chocolate irises staring into mine. I soon realized how close we were, as if we had unconsciously scooched closer as I told her my story. A crimson blush bloomed across both our faces before we were pulled out of our thoughts when the lunch bell rang. I was a little sad to know that we had to leave, but at the same time I was relieved that we could leave.
