Even though I sat in the back of the class, Jaspers eyes locked onto mine. Her eyes seemed to widen and smile became broad. I felt heat rush to my cheeks.
"What is this feeling" I mumbled to myself looking away from the mysterious girl.
"Alright Jasper, you can sit next to Kc, Kc please raise your hand" Mr. Platon pointed towards the blond haired girl with her hand in the air. I risked a glance back at the blue haired girl and to my relief, she was no longer looking my way. My eyes followed her as she took her seat three desks away from mine.
Class went by faster than I had expected. I had unconsciously stared at Jasper multiple times throughout the hour and, to my dismay, had been called out by my lab partner, Marko. Even though I never really had any friends, Marko was the one person who never gave up on trying to become my friend. He had called my name for the fifth time before giving up and just flicking me on the forehead.
"Ow! What was that for Marko!?" I asked, slightly annoyed.
"I called your name like Five times Aris. You were staring at the new girl again" Marko had stated with a slight smirk as though he knew something I didn't "also, the bell rang about three minutes ago."
"O-Oh, sorry about that" I responded in my usual monotone voice as we walked to our next class.
The next two hours went by in a flash. I wondered where the time had gone as I made my way to the roof of the school. I always ate lunch alone on the roof, not wanting to interact with others. Once I made it to the roof, I shoved my ear buds in, connecting them to my phone and playing my music. I stared up to the sky, admiring the bright yellow sun and fluffy clouds flying by. I, once again, see a few birds flying by. I walk to the edge of the roof to get a better view of the scenery in front of me.
-Flash Back to one year ago-
I was visiting my parents graves on the anniversary of their death, May 23rd. I did this every year. It had been two years since they were killed and their murderer was still out there, free while my life felt like I was put behind bars. They should be the ones feeling rotten inside, not me! Ever since that day, my life became dull. After the second year since then, I had stopped crying and started to accept that they were gone. People say that these things heal with time but they lied. It had been three years and even if I had accepted what happened, I was still broken inside.
After paying my respects to my parents, I walked to our old apartment building. I tried to go to our old apartment but I couldn't bring myself to do so. Instead, I went to the roof of the building. I sat at the edge of the roof, staring at the gloomy town. The clouds had covered the sun, casting a dark shadow on the buildings in the area.
I looked down at the scares on my wrist. Some were old and faded while others were fresh and still a pale pink. After the death of my parents, I had lost myself, hated everything in this god awful place people call Earth. I had forgotten what happiness and love felt like due to the constant pain in my heart. The emotional pain had driven me crazy that I resorted to cutting to cause physical pain to distract myself from the emotional hurt. I would get a few minutes of relief from the heartache.
My aunt knew I had cut myself in the past but thought I had stopped a while ago. I always wore long sleeved shirts so she never knew that I still did it. A drop of water had hit my arm, then another and another. Rain started pouring heavily to the point where I had been soaked to the bone. I stood up, planning to leave and head home when I looked down to the sidewalk below me. The building was about five stories high.
"What would happen if I jumped? Would anyone care? Would I see my parents again?" these thoughts popped into my head as I continued to stare at the ground "What would it feel like to fly like a bird? Would I finally be free?"
I walked closer to the edge of the roof, indenting to jump. I was at the very edge, starting to lean over before I was pulled back harshly into someone's chest. I looked up to see my old neighbor Miss Bayley.
"Please don't do it Aris" Miss Bayley began "please don't leave your aunt. She would be heartbroken. You still have a long life to live." Miss Bayley hadn't let go of me, instead, she hugged me tighter until I agreed to not jump.
She released me from the hug but never let go of my hand until we were safely in her car. Miss Bayley had driven me to aunt C's house. Once we got there, aunt C rushed over to me.
"There you are Aris! Where were you? You had me worried sick!" aunt C rambled "It's late and you have school tomorrow, take a shower to warm up and go to bed."
"Ok" I responded bluntly as I walked to take a shower. After my shower I was walking to my room when I overheard Miss Bayley and my aunt talking. Miss Bayley was informing my aunt about the incident earlier while my aunt listened with a scared face. I didn't want to think about it so I went to bed.
