I woke up to the painfully bright fluorescent lights of a hospital. for the second time today. I hated hospitals and yet, I always end up in one. My aunt wasn't in the room this time. Through the window I saw two birds soaring through the sky with nothing holding them back. God I wish I was a bird, cutting through the air with large, beautiful wings that could carry me anywhere I wanted to go.

The creek of the door hinges brought me out of my thoughts. When I looked up, I saw a shocked aunt C standing in the doorway. She set a tray of food down on the counter and ran towards me. She had almost squeezed the life out of me before I managed to pat her back as a sign that she was suffocating me. My face never changed but in my heart I felt a sliver of happiness to see her.

"Hey, how did you sleep?" aunt C asked.

"Alright I guess" I responded in a monotone voice, shrugging at the question. "How about you."

"Oh I'm alright now, I'm just glad that you're okay. The hospital called me saying that a girl found you passed out in an alley and that I had to come get you. I had gotten a little scared when you never came home but I'm just happy that you are ok now."

"mn" I didn't know how to respond so I just hummed in agreement.

"Here, you must be hungry" aunt C said, placing the once discarded tray of food in my lap.

I grimaced at what looked to resemble vomit in a bowl.

"Oh come on, it's mac and cheese" aunt C tried to get me to eat the disgusting hospital food but I refused.

"Oh really, I never would have guessed, besides, it looks more like chunky vomit to me" I said as I reached for the strawberry flavored jello that sat next to a slice of bread on the red tray. Aunt C slapped my hand before I could get to it.

"Hey young lady, no dessert before you eat a proper meal" aunt C tried again. I pushed the tray away, disgusted by the thought of eating the gross excuse for mac and cheese. Aunt C scoffed "fine then but don't complain if you're hungry later. I have to go talk to the doctor so try to get some rest ok" and with that aunt C left me alone once again.

I waited a good five minutes before reaching for the jello to make sure my aunt was gone. I always found hospital food awful and had trouble keeping it down but their jello was always good. As I ate, the TV in the room played an old movie that I didn't recognize as background noise.

The doctor said that these blackouts and headaches were part of the PTSD from the accident three years ago. I tried my best to not think about that day. Sometimes it would pop up in my nightmares and I would jolt out of bed in a cold sweat at 2:30am. I never remembered exactly what happened after I woke up, I just knew it was about that awful night.

I was discharged from the hospital after two days. They insisted on keeping me for another night to make sure I was alright. It was Thursday and I was walking to school, the wind flowing through my long black hair. As I approached the gates of Blue Bird High, I tucked my hair into my signature baggy, black hoodie. I didn't have any friends since I had moved to Blue Bird and cut ties with all my friends at Emerald. I had moved when it was decided that I would be living with my aunt. She lived on the other side of town so I had to transfer schools.

I had gotten a lot of unwanted attention when I first transferred and I still do, especially from the boys. I never thought of my self as ugly but to see guys obsess over girls and their bodies rather than their personalities always confused me. Not once in my life had I looked at a guy and found him genuinely attractive. I just ignored them and eventually guys stopped asking me out but continued to whisper about me as I walked passed and down the halls.

I got to my first class, Biology. I didn't really care much for my education lately but I had always been a bit of a science nerd. I was always early to biology  but not once had I been earlier than my teacher, Mr. Platom. I had always found his name odd but he was my favorite teacher. During lunch, he would let me help set up the lab equipment and even allow me to assist him when he conducted experiments whether they were personal or for another class.

As more and more students filed into the classroom, taking their seats, I grew confused as to where the teacher was. After about another five minutes, Mr. Platom had walked into the room followed by a girl with blue pixey cut hair and golden brown eyes. Multiple piercing's lined up her ears and a small nose piercing with a midnight blue sapphire gem stone. My chest tightened a bit. I didn't understand this feeling but I brushed it off so I could focus on the class.

"Quiet down everyone, we have a new student joining us today and I would appreciate it if you all let her introduce herself" Mr. Platom hushed the class while gesturing to the blue haired girl.

"Um hello, I'm Jasper Smith, I'm a 17 year old girl and I hope to get to know all of you!" the girl stated with a soft smile complimenting her features.
