My music continued blasting at a high volume into my ears. Music was the one thing that always calmed me down, drowning out all outside noise. I closed my eyes and started thinking about that day on the roof of my parents old apartment building. If I tried to fly again, will I feel free? I was broken after my parents left but if I was reunited with them, would my wounds finally heal?

I started to lean over the edge of the roof, tears staring to pool in my eyes as I thought about seeing my parents again, being able to watch the birds fly by with my mother and father at my side. A sense of Deja vu hit me as I was pulled back once again, stopping me from seeing my parents.

My earbuds were still blasting music but I heard a muffled voice mumbling incoherent words. I opened my eyes to see that I had fallen back on the roof, face down on top of my "savior". Once I saw strands of electric blue hair, my face started to burn in realization. I scrambled to my feet trying to escape the suffocating feeling that I had yet to name. Before I could make it to the door, a hand clasped my wrist tightly, refusing to let me to leave.

The mysterious person was still talking but I couldn't hear them. As the last song in my playlist came to an end I heard them say "are you alright?"

I didn't want to turn around. I didn't want to acknowledge what I had just tried to do. I didn't want to answer questions.

I tugged at my hand, finally getting the person to let go. I ran down the school staircase, desperately trying to loose the echo's of erratic feet trying to follow me. I ran and ran, away from the school and into an alley. I thought I had lost her, but boy was I wrong.

Someone had pulled at my now sore wrist from behind. I looked down to meet a pair of familiar golden brown eyes. Jasper was a couple inches shorter than me which caused my face to erupt in flames once more. Her neck craned upward as she stared straight into my forest green irises.

"She's is so cute" I said in my head. "Wait did I really just think that" I started a small argument with myself completely forgetting the main problem.

"Are you alright?" the soft question pulled me out of my thoughts "you're crying" she stated as she wiped away the few tears that managed to roll down the sides of my face. This mysterious girl was driving me crazy and she didn't even know it.

"Look, I'm not going to ask about what happened on the roof. I can tell it's a touchy subject but at least tell me what happened that day" she continued in a reassuring tone.

"W-What do you mean?" I managed to stutter out.

"When I brought you to the hospital. Why were you passed out in the middle of that alley a few days ago?"

"W-Wait, you're the girl that brought me there?" I questioned, slightly confused.

"Yeah, I saw you in class and recognized you. We were starting the lesson so I wasn't able to talk to you so I tried searching for you during lunch and that's when I found you on the roof." Jasper said, calmly putting the pieces together for me.

"Oh" was all I managed to say. After a few seconds of silence I continued " I'm fine thank you for that by the way." I had managed to stop stuttering but my heart beat hadn't slowed down.

"I'm just glad you are ok now" Jasper stated with a slight pink tint beginning to spread across her small nose and lightly freckled cheeks. "I was wondering if you also wanted to be friends since I don't know anyone at school yet."

I was taken aback by her words. No one had even considered asking to be my friend, aside from Mark, in years. I wasn't sure what made me say it but my words spilled out as though I had no control over my mouth "I would like that." I turned my gaze towards my feet as I grew embarrassed, not meaning for that to be said out loud.

Jasper's face lit up with a large grin and her eyes sparkled "great! I will join you for lunch on the school's roof tomorrow then, bye." She ran back towards the school, now that our lunch period was long passed over, to try and make it to her next class. I just started my walk home, not wanting to sit through another class lecture.

When my Aunt got home, I pretended like nothing happened. She worries about me all the time and I didn't want to make her life any harder than it already is. The afternoon went by in a matter of minutes. I had sat at the table with my aunt for dinner, did some homework and went to bed.

"Why can't I stop thinking about her" I mumbled into the darkness of my room as the faint picture of Jasper floated above my bed. She had popped into my mind countless times throughout the last ten hours.

It was now 12:57am. I had finished all my homework long ago and was now laying in my bed, desperately trying to get even a few minutes of sleep. I had eventually passed out through pure exhaustion. I slept a dreamless night until my alarm pulled me out of my thoughtless slumber.
