ALEX'S PERSPECTIVE:

Alex scrambled across the still-frosted sand beneath her. She was cold even before the forest canopy cast humid shade over her. Shivers shot through her jaw and something like an exaggerated fever followed. He could be dead, he could be dead, he could be dead. Each syllable was punctuated with another pace across the undergrowth. Fear webbed through her chest and butterflies with steel wings flung themselves around her abdomen.

After an indiscernible amount of time, she arrived at what she knew was the place. Whatever that place was and whatever it meant, this was it. It was simple, like a blade of grass in a field, but something pulled her toward the trickling stream with brown-black tracing through it. Thin, spinning, winding, rushing, ribbon-like, twirling...unnatural.

She had known what had happened as soon as the Library had let the image flow through her mind, but a small part of her had been hoping that this was Medora's equivalent of April Fool's Day...However, she knew all too well how real this was. She didn't know how, when, or why, but... Somehow, Kaiden had, through this stream... She faltered, not wanting to sink in. Not letting it sink in. Kaiden had entered the land of Aven Dalmarta.

There was no choice. She dived into the frigid water which appeared to be ankle-deep but swam deeper and deeper until her ears popped and she was lost in an abyss of black.
