CHAPTER THIRTEEN | BOY, THAT SURE WAS AWKWARD

The days up to the Academic Decathlon trip passed by quickly. Tony continued to be exasperated by Spider-Man's antics, while Oliver tried to keep up with his instructions. It was the kind of chaos that he was beginning to get used to.

The Monday before the Decathlon, Oliver was cooped up in the lab with Lucky. Tony had been called out for a call, Oliver heard something about Captain America and Scotland. Lucky was still there, currently laying next to Oliver chewing on a tennis ball. Tony gave Oliver complete control over the colors and design of the suit, knowing that Oliver was better equipped to handle that than using the machines and programming.

Of course Oliver only got to design it if he used at least one of Tony's color recommendations (there was pink, green, orange, silver, and gold). Oliver had felt like he had died when he first started sketching the suit. He was still extremely nervous to actually do any work on his own, or at least not something that wasn't just "put these numbers in" or "complete this program".

Lucky started to wag his tail when Tony reentered the room.

"Hey kid, heard you're going on a school trip this weekend?" He started, Oliver looking up from the paper.

"Uh, yeah, it's for my club, I'm going to take photos of the Academic Decathlon for the yearbook."

"That sounds pretty interesting," Tony paused for a second, "Do you have a camera?"

Oliver shook his head, pointing at his phone instead.

"The photography class checked them all out for the weekend, so I'm just going to use my phone and hope for the best," He shrugged.

The look in Tony's eyes after Oliver finished his sentence, made him want to run away. It was a look that was either going to end up with an explosion or a new device.

Tony went to one of the cabinets and rummaged through it, pulling out spare parts and things that looked a bit dangerous. It lasted a few minutes, and resulted in a pile of stuff on the floor, until Tony found what he was looking for.

A camera.

I was about as big as Oliver's phone and looked almost exactly like the digital camera his Mom would bring on vacations; a metallic silver color with a few scratches. Tony handed it to the confused teen with a proud look on his face.

"This is a prototype Stark camera. Initially, it was supposed to be a present for Pepper a few years ago, but, well, that's not important right now. Anyway, it's got a super good photo quality, and it uploads with-"

While Tony continued to talk about the different functions of the camera, Oliver started to mess around with it.

"-there's also a las - don't press that button!" Tony shouted when Oliver pressed on the button he thought was going to take him to the gallery, but instead a blinding light flashed from it. Out of panic, Oliver dropped the camera and teleported across the room. Tony managed to grab the camera before it hit the ground and turned off the light.

"Wha - what was that?" Oliver gasped, trying to catch his breath. Tony winced slightly.

"Well, that was for a - er - I don't need to explain myself." Tony put a red sticker over the button. "Anyway, don't press that button, or this one, and that one, that's all you really need to know."

"Okay, so don't press any button with a red sticker?" Oliver confirmed, looking at the camera that definitely had too many features.

"Yep, and do whatever you want with it, Pepper won't allow me to sell it through SI anyway."
Oliver smiled, "Cool, thank's a lot Mr. Stark,"

The camera did take really nice pictures, and managed to not blow anything up, which was always a plus. Oliver's Mom, on the other hand, was beginning to get annoyed with Tony Stark. Oliver had to calm her down when she found out why the camera's buttons were taped over, then she decided to rant while making dinner about Oliver's safety at the internship.

Overall, it was an interesting night.

The days passed in a blur, Oliver trying to complete his homework early, and do things for the Internship. Emma and Leo let him nap during lunch, never telling him the pictures they have of him drooling on the table.

Packing wasn't fun either. Partially due to the fact that Oliver didn't pack the night before, and had to wake up early. Also because Nimue decided it was a great time to show up.

So, there was Oliver, scurrying around his room, trying to find clean clothes. Then there was Nimue sitting on his bed watching Oliver while talking about the fate of the universe.

It was one of the many times when Oliver wished there wasn't a multidimensional being in his life. Especially one that kept pointing out that Oliver hadn't done his laundry.

"Oliver! We're leaving in ten!" His Mom shouted, Nimue snorted from his spot on the bed.

"'Kay!" He yelled back, before turning to Nimue, "And you, please, please, please, stop with the comments. I swear, normally you're all 'it's the end of the universe, only you can fix it' and now, you're making fun of my packing?"

Oliver was slightly out of breath when he finished ranting, only getting more pissed off by the amusing look Nimue had.

"Oh, whoops." Was the only response. Oliver groaned and zipped his bag up before running out to the kitchen. His Mom was leaning against the counter scrolling through her phone, a smoothie was next to her. She shot Oliver a motherly glare.

"Next time, listen to men and pack the night before," She told him while passing the smoothie over. "Now we need to go, c'mon."

The whole car ride Oliver was bouncing his leg and messing with the straps on his bag. His Mom kept shooting him looks at the stop lights.

When they got to the school, Oliver was out and by Ned's side before his Mom could even turn off the car. He'd never really done good on school trips when he didn't have somebody to cling to, and Ned practically volunteered for it.

Before they could get on the bus, Peter came running up.

"Hey, it's Peter!" Someone yelled. Oliver could feel Flash's mood drop.

"Peter?" Liz turned to him, Peter looked to Ned and Oliver, who both smiled.

"Uh, yeah I was hoping maybe I could rejoin the team?"

"No, no way." Flash pushed his way to the front of the group, "You can't just quit on us, stroll up and be welcomed back by everyo-"

"Hey, welcome back Peter!" Mr. Harrington interrupted, coming out from the bus. "Flash, you're back to first alternate."

Oliver held in his laugh at Flash's face, and the other's comments.

"Protesting is patriotic." Mr. Harrington said to Michelle.

Before Oliver could fully register that he was going to be seeing a different state, they were already on the bus.

~

Not dead, but not alive. I am on pain meds lol, I got my wisdom teeth out and my whole face is swollen. I look like a chipmunk, I hate it.

Anywho, sorry? It's been, like, over a month. I don't think that my posting's gonna get any better either, I literally dropped out of the one college class I was taking, which means I get to take another elective. So, yeah, I have a lot of school work rn, plus motivation that is slowly replenishing. Also I've written myself into a hole because I have no idea how relationships are supposed to work? Every romance I read ends with someone dying and I need to get back into non-depressing romance.

Other than that boring stuff, the trailer? for Falcon and the Winter Soldier? I am excited? I literally saw it on YouTube while watching  ~ anime compilations ~  and cried. AND there's WandaVison, with Darcy? I love Darcy so much.

Well, hope you're all doing well, and thanks for sticking with the weird ass updates on this.
