CHAPTER TEN | AT LEAST THERE WAS A DOG
Oliver didn't expect to see the Avengers breakup plaster across every news outlet when he woke up. He especially didn't expect to see that Captain America, and a good chunk of the Avengers became war criminals. On top of that, a few days before that, the UN was bombed, by someone who was supposed to have died in the forties.
The chaos that had happened canceled out Oliver's worry for the Inhuman hate groups and restrictions that were happening.
Luckily, Leo and Emma were there to help Oliver stay calm and distracted while in school. Leo was surprised when Oliver asked to help him with volleyball for the week (Leo was excited for the help, but worried at the same time).
Of course, Nimue had stopped by a few times, always pushing Oliver to practice his powers, and droning on about the end of the world. But, Oliver was treating it like homework that had an open deadline: he just wasn't doing it.
Oliver would stop by the hospital on Wednesdays with his Mom, his grandpa always sleeping on the white sheets.
The doctors still couldn't find out what was wrong with him. All they knew was that it was something with his brain, and the scans weren't showing any tumors or signs of cancer. It was like he just fell asleep one day and doesn't want to wake up yet.
The Internship still was shut down, which was to be expected. Last he heard was that Tony was testifying for the Avengers that were caught, and then a few of them were still on the run. Mostly he got his information from Pepper, who sent him a few emails apologizing for the internship being put on pause.
Oliver's Mom was busy with work and his Grandpa, while his Uncle hasn't talked to them since the day they came to New york. Oliver wasn't too upset though, he never really got to know any of his family outside of his Mom.
The time was coming, though, to pick a club. Emma had gotten invited to the Occult Club, and while Oliver liked spooky things, he didn't want to get possessed.
With his friends both busy with clubs and sports, Oliver found himself a bit lonely. Ned, though, started to hangout with him more outside of school. The two boys bonded by being ditched by their busy friends after school.
Oliver discovered that Peter had been kept busy because of his Stark Internship, which confused him a bit since he never heard of Tony opening up a new internship. Also that Peter asked Ned to not tell a lot of people about it.
Ned introduced Oliver to all the food and comic stores around, and helped him get the hang of living in a city. Oliver, of course, was extremely thankful because there was no way he would've explored this on his own.
Surprisingly, they talked mostly about Peter. Oliver couldn't exactly explain why he was so interested in him, but there was a mysteriously awkward aura surrounding him. Ned was more than happy to talk about him, telling Oliver all of his embarrassing moments.
When the day of the Club Carnival came by, Ned walked around the gym with him. The two visited Emma and Leo in their stands, which were right next to each other. Leo was trying to find tall freshmen to give out the permission slips and important dates, while some of his team members were sitting behind him selling Gatorade.
Emma's club was selling sugar cookies (the store-bought kind with pink frosting) and tarot card readings.
Ned went to go talk to the Academic Decathlon, where they were handing out candy and weird trivia. Right next to the stand was the yearbook club, while Oliver had zero interest in making the yearbook, he still wanted to be involved in a club just to help his Mom stop worrying.
The club was happy to have him, there were only three other people in it and they desperately needed more members. All that Oliver was going to have to do was find and take pictures of school events, there was one girl already doing that, and then leave the design to the other two.
Two weeks passed before Oliver went back to the Internship. Tony sent him a text telling him to come back on Monday (the text was sent that morning). Oliver still wasn't sure how to act around him. He'd idolized Tony Stark since childhood, and now there was the whole Avengers falling apart thing. Basically, it was going to be awkward as hell.
When Oliver got to the lab, there was something unexpected. A big yellow lab was wandering around, which was definitely not supposed to be there.
Tony looked up from his desk when he heard three knocks on the lab door. Oliver waved awkwardly and pointed to the keycode, then the dog.
"Why's there a dog in here?" Oliver shot out immediately. While he said it the dog came up to him and licked his hand. Oliver was about to melt and pet the dog, then Tony responded.
"Oh, it's a friend's. I'm going to be watching him for a few weeks." Tony looked back to whatever he was tinkering with, "His name's Lucky, before that Pizza, before that Arrow, he has a lot of names,"
"Okay," Oliver knelt down to pet him, Lucky started to try and sit in his lap, even though he was at least sixty pounds.
"Now Oliver, time to get to work." Tony pushed a bunch of spare-parts off of a table. The sound of them clicking and scraping as they fell into a bucket, made Tony grimace. "For the next couple months we'll be working on a new suit for Spider-Man."
Oliver gaped at him. Before this it was Tony teaching him the basics of the basics, because all Oliver knew was creating concepts with no way to follow through.
"C'mon, kid, you're my protege, I'm your mentor." Oliver was still trying to process his thoughts, "It's about time I show you my ways,"
"O-Okay?"
"That's it!"
Tony and Oliver spent the rest of the afternoon trying to come up with designs for the suit, making thumbnail sketches and picking out colors. Tony had a whole plan to teach Oliver how to make an AI to integrate into the suit, while he made the power source.
Oliver discovered that Spider-Man was his age when Tony made a slip-up while they were talking about sizing and accessibility. Apparently Tony recruited him after finding out his identity and then brought him to Germany.
Tony let out a few more secrets that he probably shouldn't. Though they were mainly just Tony complaining about how Spider-Man was reckless and felt too similar to himself.
By the time Oliver was ready to leave, he had eight texts from his Mom asking him to get back before dinner. It was definitely past dinner time, and he was getting apologies ready in his head.
"By Mr. Stark! I have to go or my Mom will actually murder me," Oliver paused, and went over to Lucky to pet him, "'kay, bye."
Oliver waved as he teleported back to his house. In his panic to not get yelled at, something different happened. When he appeared in his bedroom, instead of the dark sky he expected to see, there was golden light pouring through his window.
"Holy shit."

Heyyyyyyyy
So, I can tell there's a theme with my updating schedule, and that schedule is nonexistent. I really do hope that you guys aren't too annoyed because I am going to stick with this story, school's just a lot right now. Well, this year's been weird as fuck sooooooo.
My county has been put in the danger zone for covid, so and the schools aren't going to even consider going back in until March, so I'm just sitting at home binging anime and Brooklyn Nine-Nine :)
Anyway, I hope that everybody's staying safe for the holidays and still having fun!!!
