Summary: Iruka's brutally murdered for his relationship with Naruto, and Naruto leaves the village and turns evil. Sasuke tags along no matter how much Naruto protests.

Worn blue sandals skipped across the road as Naruto hummed. In his hand he held two coupons for Ichiraku ramen, holding them gently yet firmly. He was having a good day, he managed to find two coupons and was planning on treating his favorite teacher, Iruka-sensei, to dinner after he was done marking papers.

It had been about nine months since Naruto had graduated the academy but his bond with his teacher was still strong, seeing as Iruka was one of the first to accept Naruto and Naruto saw him as a father-figure. He skipped along until he stopped at an odd crowd, a bunch of civilians being kept at a distance by ANBU. One of the most concerning things was how close to the academy it was, Naruto cautiously walked over, worried that a child was harmed.

When he saw the scene his blood ran cold. A scarred face, frozen in contorted pain, loose brown hair splayed in the dirt. A chunin vest was soaked in blood as a school teacher lay limp, paler than the warm brown that Naruto recognized. Memories flashed through the still boy's mind.

"You don't need to do this to make friends...Naruto." The voice said sadly.

"You might be Hokage when you're...this tall." A voice echoed through his mind.

"Once you get that done… How about I take you for Ichiraku?"

"Is that why you took your goggles off?" The voice was amused.

"Naruto! Get down!" The voice yelled desperately.

"...Uzumaki Naruto… Is a shinobi of Konoha!" The voice choked a yell.

Naruto could feel a wetness on his cheek, one that he hadn't felt in years. His whole body stilled, not daring to move a muscle, his eyes focused on the empty eyes of his father-figure. He felt eyes on him but he didn't care, he could barely see anymore through his tear-clouded eyes but he held his gaze. He heard something that made him snap out of it.

"Looks like blunt force trauma, a few witnesses but none of them saw faces. Apparently it was a big group, twelve at least." An ANBU said grimly, one with the mask of a cat. Another ANBU with a mask like a bear spoke up. "I think they might have been parents, parents aren't fond of those who associate with… 'It'." The man said, the same tone that Naruto had heard over and over like a mantra. It wasn't as if Naruto wasn't connecting the dots himself (he may have been dead last but he could assess situations even half in shock) but the ANBU's words confirmed it.

This was his fault that Iruka lay limp now, impossibly still and quiet. It was because of him that Iruka was dead.

"If you lay a finger on Iruka-sensei… I'll kill you." He heard his own promise in his head, one of the the first of many promises, ones that solidified his nindo. His eyes scanned the crowd, blue eyes showing that it was undeniably him but slit puples that held an unspoken promise that the demon fox would be more merciful. 'Parents.' Naruto thought coldly, still looking for the slightest of twitches from someone in the crowd to reveal that they were guilty. 'If I killed them, their academy children would be orphaned.' The blonde thought, weighing his options silently. 'But how can a parent brutally beat someone to death and then smile at their kid in the morning.' He felt a growl at the bottom of his throat and his fingers flexed with his slowly growing claws.

His vengeful thoughts, however, were stopped by a hand on his shoulder and a familiar smoke in the air. "I'm so sorry, Naruto." The deep voice of a familiar old man made him whip around. He saw the way the third Hokage held himself, hunched and still, rough breathing from decades of smoking being the only thing hinting that the frail old man was indeed alive. Naruto realised how bony the man's knuckles were, how the skin on his face wrinkled and sagged, and his only thought was: 'I could kill him.'
