Summary: Basically 'Can I tag along?' except rewritten because my writing from a year ago is embarrassingly bad.
"I'm so sorry, but she's dead."
Why? She was here just a minute ago…
"He'll never know humanity, if he's mine or otherwise."
He's Kushina's, he should be free…
"I'm not letting you have him until you can pull yourself together, hokage or not!"
I just want to go back to her…
"How can you call yourself a father when you can't even bother to take care of him?!"
I'm supposed to be hokage, I need to work…
"Hokage-sama!"
I just want to rest…
"Minato!"
I just want to rest…
"Dad!"
Just let me…
"Dad!"
Minato blinked out of his stupor, looking down at the two year old that clung to his leg, and making him giggle like mad. That smile that looked just like Kushina's taking up his fat baby face. "Well how do you do, peanut?" he asked in a silly voice, scooping up his son, who kept laughing.
"Seriously, two years old and you're already addressing your poor old father, how will I keep up once you start sentences? You're making me old before I'm even 30 you scoundrel." He mocked with the most exaggerated offended face possible, making Naruto compelled to grab his hair.
A knock on the door interrupted his one-sided conversation, and he quickly shifted the baby to one arm so he could go to the disturbance. He opened the door and immediately squinted up at his sensei. "I'll have you know you interrupted a very important conversation on how old Naruto is making me." He booped the boy's nose to emphasize his point.
"Hahaha! If you're old, squirt, then I'm ancient! Now let me in, I have gifts for my little protagonist." Minato pouted a little but moved to let the man in.
Jiraiya sat down on the couch and Minato rested Naruto in his awaiting arms, making the sannin melt into a fit of coos. "You miss me, brat? You better, the house is so quiet now."
It had been over a month since Minato got Naruto back from Jiraiya and Tsunade, he still felt guilty that they had to take him from him while he was still… unwell. But that was behind him, he stopped drinking, caught up on his paperwork and was fully prepared to be the best father he could be, even if it was two years late.
His sensei had gotten a house in Konoha, and had been staying there to take care of Naruto. The toad sage was probably going to go back on the road now that he was sure Naruto was safe, it wasn't like the man could ever sit still for long.
As if hearing his thoughts, Jiraiya spoke to the baby more than him. "I'm going on a trip, I'll probably be back in four or five months, so I got you a parting gift." He cooed with a smile on his face, pulling out a coin purse that looked like a frog and having tiny hands instantly latch onto the material.
The older man gently handed the boy back to his father, a smile still etched into his face. He left with more goodbyes to Naruto than Minato, and headed on his way.
Minato smiled down at his son, who was chewing on his new present. "Now you're stealing my sensei, by the time you're grown the whole world's going to be on your side, isn't it?" He couldn't even take the smile off to look indignified at the thought.
